Hello, all,

So, I'm relatively new to the actual PLAYING of war games (been into the hobby aspects for about 6 months now). So, if I am understanding things correctly, in order to play any flyers, I have to find the White Dwarf that introduces the mechanics and stats? It seems that the basic flyer mechanics are in the 6th edition BRB, but obviously the Space Marines vanilla codex was before flyers came out. So do I have to buy the white dwarf (was it last month's?) in order to get the stats & special rules for the different flyers?

You only have to by the old wd if you want to use the new ones (Stormtalon, Ork Fighta, third one I forgot).

If you are using a Vendetta/valk/Stormraven/the 74 flyers in the Necron Codex, then you just need that codex.

since none of those are available without Allying (if you are not IG/GK/BA/Crons) then if you wanted one without the White Dwarf, you'd need to ally with that army.

The third one was just showing off the new Necron doom/night scythes their actual stats are in the necron codex not white dwarf. As a side note the necron only have 2 different flyers.

What army are you playing? It looks like Space Marines from your picture.

The digital version of the Space Marines Codex has the stats for the new Stormtalon in it if you're going that route

It's ridiculous. I don't know why GW doesn't have the rules in a pdf, it's already been months since the WD edition's release.

Even the old White Dwarf Blood Angel codex had a pdf on the website.

It seems GW now expect us to pay for their rules, either though purchasing the relevant White Dwarf (which is, by the way, still available from their webstore) or a digital download, which isn't inherently unreasonable (albeit most of their competitors seem to able to still turn a profit while giving away rules cards with their miniatures and/or .pdfs from their websites).

GW being GW, however, they have succeeded in buggering-up even this otherwise sensible initiative by tying their digital products to the iTunes store, and thus to iOs machines. Suffice to say that, having no need for an iPad, and better things on which to spend £400, I certainly won't be purchasing any digital GW material until it's available in a PC-compatible format.

Yeah this is a terrible terrible idea of GW. Nothing short of a scam imo.

Why the hell do i need to buy a codex, rule book, models and then white dwarf magazines just to find out their rules?

This is exactly the reason why piracy happens, and if this game were digital and not tabletop, i bet it'd be one of the most pirated games ever purely coz of gw.

You mean, like the new Sisters of Battle codex?

Some people still use the old tyranid codex, too.

Still doesn't change the fact that most opponents and all tournaments expect you to use the most current rules of your army, and GW has made it all but impossible to obtain those rules for some of their models (Nightspinner, anyone?).

What's the damn problem of putting the rules of a model on the back of the construction manual? Especially if they can not be found in the corresponding codex?

You can check with your local GW, but when I bought a pair of Dakkajets they were kind enough to photocopy the rules for me because they had sold out if WDs. This was at a GW mind you not a separate hobby shop.

I asked my local GW store to do the same, as i already own two dakka jets. They flat out refused and told me that i HAVE to buy the WD magazine :/

It's probably a no-no for GW standards but a local area store give you a photo copy ruleset for the flyer that you purchase, because you know... GW are retards.

I need to return some video tapes.

yep. Guess who looked through google for the rules and printed them that way?

Srsly considering that 40k isnt worth it, with what greedy dicks GW are..

With things like this:

GW really really have to reconsider how they treat their customers.

I figured different stores would have different policies. Still worth checking as the worst thay happens is thar they say no.

At least the Nightspinner has rules for download on the GW site.

I absolutely refuse to pay for the PDF's as the only way they are making them available is to people with IPads, and that's plain idiotic.

There is a secret competition among GW managers called "You don't dare".
Started with Space Hulk:
"Hey, we make the best Genestealer and BA Terminator models ... in Plastic ... and then make them limited with only stock for 2 days!"
"You don't dare!"
"Then we release new Codices for Tyranids and Blood Angels without new models for them."
Mad giggles from everyone.

"Hey, we release a wave of new flyers in plastic."
"Okay."
"Then we make new 40k rules so that everybody wants to have them."
"Okay."
"Then we make the rules a limited splash release!:"
"You don't dare!"
Mad giggles from everyone.

Hahahah! Kroot! I'm tempted to believe it, as it would at least make more sense than what is probably really happening.

The game could be called, "How loyal are they?" (best with an entire studio audience saying these words)

-White Dwarf-only rules for fliers?

-No hype for upcoming models other than showing up on "Advanced Order?"

-Finally going digital like everyone else in the market.... but only for people with IPads?

-Offering SoB as a mainstream army, but very expensive and with no actual printed codex (that's current)?

-Printing Space Hulk 3e in limited numbers and never touching it again, when evidence shows they could have been selling piles of copies all along these past years since the re-release?

Stop being so dramatic. If you hate GW so much, sell all your stuff, and take up solitaire, I hear its easy.

I swear, some of you make it sound as if Warhammer was a job. It's a game, people! The more you panic, the less fun it becomes.

'Cause I'm waiting for the UPS guy to drop off the 4 Wraithguard I bent over and paid 60 bucks for.

I want to use the models in the games that I play because the Dakka Jet looks cool as gak.

The WD with the rules sold out in 2 weeks.

I don't own an iPad for the only legal rules that GW has available.

The DakkaJet can sit on the fething shelf until I can get the rules from GW.

This is a very legitimate complaint, i hope you realise...

You cant release new models and then expect people to buy a magazine just for the rules. Thats just greedy and gouging your players for every cent you can.

If you defend the company for doing so, then theres something truly wrong with you..

You realize the difference between a product and a company? Just because we like their product doesn't mean we have to like they way they are selling it. Which is exactly the point of this thread. I personally don't care whether I have to pay $10 extra for the rules in addition to my dakkajets. As long as I can actually get those rules. For example, the German copy of the WD in question is sold out, both on the website and all stores I know, if I any new ork player in my area wanted to get the rules for those cool planes sitting on the shelfs everywhere, they are simply out of luck.

An awesome Idea would be selling a "Chapter Approved <Year>" collection for every year, without limited print runs. That way everyone could get rules they missed, and GW could even make money of it. Win-Win. Right now people can't get the rules and for that reason aren't buying models, which translates to lose-lose.
