This is more than you are going to get out of a quick answer.
He should probably read through his codex to get an idea of the plusses and minuses.
Also, this should probably go in Tactics.

Probably best to build the gants with fleshborers. He'll eventually want a tervigon and those can only make the fleshborer kind. The devourers are a much better gun, but they double the cost of the model. Spinefists are a cheapish upgrade that don't help. Spikerifles don't exist as a plastic bit. You can occasionally find an old metal termagant with a spikerifle on ebay though.

Just assemble with fleshborers. Later if he wants to use devourers he can say this particular group has them. When I played nids using devourers was usually out of a spore and not every game. keep the parts in a part bin but just assemble the fodder and use as such

If I were him I would model them with Devourers, he will end up using Devgaunts. For Fleshborer Termies buy the 5 Termie boxes, they are cheaper than the 12 man boxes, only come with Fleshborers and can be purchased in much smaller increments so they are perfect for Tervigon Termies.

I'd probably go with Fleshborers to start with, and then branch into devourers as soon as he has a good number of basic termagants to make a Tervigon viable.
