So im getting a crisis suit soon and i ant to convert a cool looking commander, I do not plan on magnetizing it.
My idea for it definitely has a shield generator. Im ondering what other weapons to give him. Im thinking a fusion blaster and plasma rifle.
Can someone give me an idea for other good loadouts for it?

Loadouts with the commander depend a lot on what you want to do with him. What you listed is close to what I use for hunting termies and MANZ.

Maybe the 2+ armour save too.

I would like to deepstrike him to corners of the board and use him to hunt lone targets.

The Helios (Plasma, Fusion, HW Multitracker[if you want the shield generator]) is a good 2+ hunter and with Fusion can pop vehicles.

You could also do a Sunfire(plasma, Fusion, Missile Pod, HW Multitracker) but unless you added a HW drone controller for shield drones, no Invuln save.

I would also suggest Shadowsun. You can either use her LD bubble when you want to gunline, or you can drop her behind enemy lines and open up some tanks.

I personally disagree with not magnetizing the commander. I glued mine and now I'm going to have to go back and undo that so I can magnetize it for more flexibility.

That being said, if you want to hunt lone units Helios is your pattern. You'll pop the crap out of 2+ all day, with your fusion blaster IDing termies like nobody's business.

I woul personally prefer paying the extra 10 points on a pair of sheild drones instead of a shield generator myself. They basically make your commander 5 wounds instead of 3 (if you're running an Shas'el) and can "Look Out Sir" to get them to tank the wound on a 2+.

Now, if you take that route you then have a free hardpoint left over and I would recommend a targeting array. You've put all that effort into placing someone behind enemy lines, you wanna make sure they have all the help they can to make every shot count without markerlights.

Well im making him a conversion based off of the crisis suit, but maybe i will take the sheild drones. im not sure if my shield idea will work when i flesh out the model. The sunforge sounds pretty boss.

If you take shield drones, take the 2+ armour save, so the drones will be 2+/4++. If you lose one drone you take morale.

Also, if you are dropping and hunting termie equivalents, consider a body guard with plasma and fusion. each suit will be putting out 3 shots per turn that will murder termies and MANZ, and still burn through heavy tanks. If you can get them some marker light support, then it's strait up murder.

I was considering a bodyguard like that for heavy infantry hunting.
What about giving them a markerlight drone?

I like putting Marker drones in squads. they are a tad bit exspensive but i have good luck hitting with them and bs5 stealth suits are pretty beastly lol

Not to thread hijack but what's the consensus on the airburst launcher and the cyclic ion blaster? Any good?

I recently dug my tau out of storage and am looking to get them updated for 6th.

AFL is great for clearing low armour units out of cover without having to get into flamer range. Guard get turned to mush by it.

Against Power Armour and better you can just go the "Force saves, they'll fail some of them!" route so it's still useful.

On Topic, I run a Shas'o with Shield Gen, Plasma, Missile Pod, HW-Multi and two shield drones as my Warlord. Without that Shield Generator you're pretty much dead once those drones pop and the Iridium Armour cuts mobility too much for me to consider it reliable. With the Gen you still have a 50% chance to survive a Krak Missile or Lascannon shot as opposed to just losing the model straight away.

I would run a Shas'el with TL Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, HW Multi-Tracker, Iridium Plates, Stimulant Injector (FNP), 2x Shield Drones.

Will mince TEQ, decent mid-range light tank busting, Can take most saves himself, as FNP grants a small chance of saving after failing 2+, and 5 wounds
