I'd like to buy an Assault Marine squad, and it seems to me that dual-wielding Marines are in every way better than those armed with one pistol and a chainsword - so is there a restriction on which models can use the gunslinger rule that I'm overlooking?

Only models that can take two pistols can use it.

Ah, so it will be stated in a unit's entry if it can take two pistols? Thanks.

Assault marines cannot take two bolt pistols, btw.

Understood. I'll still be making at least one model dual-wield, just 'cause I think it will look cool.

While this does look cool, it isn't technically correct. I actually need to update some of my grey hunters since they are dual wielding pistols (which had no advantage in the previous editions).

As far as I can see, the only model that can do this in an assault squad(only BA codex to hand but most of the units are the same) is the sergeant. He can replace his bolt pistol/chainsword, that is a fairly poor sergeant load out tbh but each to their own.

Rule of Cool would trump WYSIWYG in this situation, IMO. It's like over WYSIWYG - a tactical marine cannot take 2 pistols, so the model shouldn't be a problem . If you modelled a sergeant with 2 pistols, that's different.

Agreed. I use a mix of equipment on my Grey Hunters - some have just bolters, some have bolter / bolt pistol, some have bolt pistol / chainsword etc - and I have precedent in my units for illegally-armed models (my Mark of the Wulfen model has two chainswords) so I don't think anyone would object to giving a Grey Hunter twin bolt pistols for looks as long as it's reasonably clear that he doesn't, in game terms, have two pistols. To play it safe, just don't make it a guy with any special equipment - Cypherstyle is not allowed by the rules, and could lead to confusion, so don't do that particular combination.

My friend runs DA veterans I believe. They come out of a drop pod with a pistol and plama pistol each. It doesn't sound scary until you have 10 plasma shots in your face.

Precious few units can Gunsling at present, but i'll bet some of the new codex will have a character or unit that can.

I've got a skyclaw modeled with 2 bolt pistols and he looks pretty bad ass, as long as i dont fire both its fine to just have the odd bad ass duel wielding pistols.

My dark angels veteran call all go and like Cypher Dual wield one plasma and one bolt pistol. And I may be using them like that soon just because It gives me a reason to use my Cypher model.

I am not seeing where they can do this; the only option I am finding for PP purchase is on the 3 Veterans.
