Do we have a good HQ that is good for long range fighting?
The best I can think of is Hamie with Hexrifle, but that's it there's nothing else that seems good...

Archon with a blaster or dual blast pistols?
Not exactly long range, but that's about it.
While not personally good at shooting, Sliscus buffs the feth out of warrior blobs.
That's about it. All our HQs are beatsticks or force multipliers, really.

They're your 2 best options right there, the Haemy for IC / MC sniping, and Archon with blasterborn for mass tank / TEQ hunting.
I've not checked the 6th ed rule out on it yet, but does the Archon still get his re-roll to hit based on a BS of 7?
1 more pricy as hell option is Vect on his golden raider of doom if that counts...? A HQ unit with the dark eldars Land Raider equivalent

- Vect
- 'el Duke
- 8 Trueborn
x4 Blasters
x2 Splinter Cannon
x2 Splinters Rifles
So, you'd have a ride that is AV 13 with 3x DL. The squads generating crapton of 3+ Splinter shots and 4 STR8 AP2.

That's a very expensive unit...
But I guess you probably field it when it is 2000 points up...
Yeah that's what I though...
The Archon with blaster pistols 8" =.= is not really ranged attack...
Yeah, guess I'll stick to the Haemie with Hexrifle...
It has NEVER done me any good though...

It's 70~ points.
If you're expecting it to win you the game, you're being a tidbit unreasonable.
All it needs to do is glass one IC or MC and it's made its points back, especially if another squad steals the Haemy's pain token.

Yeah I am running a gunboat with no assault what so ever...
The Haemie has never wounded anything for the games I have played...
Probably just bad luck but yeah...

Agreed. Stick Sliscus with a big pile of Kabalites in a Raider with splinter racks. 3+ poisoned, (mostly) rerollable to-hit Splinter weapons, yo.
You could also stick an Archon with an Aegis line with one of the gun upgrades, I guess. The gun uses the character's BS.

Alternatively, stick Sliscus with a 20 strong Warrior Blob behind a Aegis defense line with the duke operating the quad gun.
Rerollable 2+ on the quad gun, and everyone else wounds on a 3+ and has 4+ cover. Not bad.

How is it rerollable 2+ on the quad gun?
Looking at my codex the Duke's 2+ to wound is just for his weapons "The Serpents Bite."

I think he's referring to the fact that the Quad Gun is Twin-linked and the Duke has a BS of 6.

Yeah, but you either detatch the duke from the unit so he can be sniped or you've got to have the quad-gun shooting at the same thing as the unit. Not amazing.

Hexrifle have won me many games since the release of 6th, and I've been really lucky getting 6s so I can chose where to place the wound. I try to take one for every 500 points on the table. A lot of people I've played over look them because most of my army will be up in their face, and by the time they try to do something about anyone with a Hexrifle it's too late or the damage is done.

Hex-Haems are pretty good. ( though normally I run my Hex Rifles in 3 man squads of wracks) I have 3 Hex-Haems that have served me well in the past.
Hex Rifles most of the time are only 36" range Assault 1, Rending Splinter Rifles.
BUT they also have the chance for instagibbing multiwound models, and with Precision Shot they're now good at sniping characters out of blobs.
Personally, I love em, and will be trying using more of them in 6th.
