Only took them 3.5 to 4 hours to do it, too.

And for those wondering(because you had a ninja), supposedly, they don't mean sold out of Thursday's stock, either.

Will Shick tweeted:
the lucky owners of the last #IKRPG pre-release book! Still plenty of excitement at the #PrivateerPress booth though pic.twitter.com/HDVvjFqn

Multiple people at the show say they've asked the staff and that the answer they're getting is that what's sold out isn't getting restocked.

It took more than 4 hours to sell out, (because I bought my copy about 2:30 pm), but you had to be in line - I think when I joined the line (before 1), there were only going to be a few copies left for the people behind me.

Someone in the demo booth (met him Saturday, but forgot his name) took this vid:

The coolest part about the IKRPG is that you can build characters that can be used as warcasters in warmahordes.

This was one of my favorite things with the old WHF role playing game. I'm getting it even if I have no plans to play.

Next step is to make them official!

GW Rules Interpretation Syndrom. GWRIS. Causes people to second guess a rule in a book because that's what they would have had to do in a GW system.

You could do that anyway. Just write up a set of rules for a special character.

Might be a nice way to culminate a campaign though, say, get out of lael (part 1), evade *insert foe here* (part 2), get to somewhere, and big ruck or something (part 3) in warmahordes or somesuch.

Gotta give this one a big LOL-- I believe it was the first or second NQ mag that said that they were going to introduce the rules for converting your IKRPG characters to WM... in the next issue.

Well, with this it helps that the new RPG is basically just Warmachine with some equipment buying & skill rules tacked-on. If you've read any of the preview material the rules are pretty much copy/pasted from Warmahordes even the injury rules are handled just like a warbeast. I'd imagine most characters are ready to go on the table top out of the box, no conversion needed.

Nope, hadn't seen previews, other than the character sheet... are the stats the same?

Pretty much. The game has a rather standard stable of RPG stats Strength, Agility etc.. but these ultimately are used to derive RAT/MAT/DEF/ARM etc.. that you're familiar with from Warmahordes. They function simliarly, even things like Boosts, Sprint, Beat Back etc.. are ported pretty much word for word.

Oh :/. I was hoping for something a little more out of the box... FFG did a pretty interesting job adapting the 40k structure to another engine, for instance.

Do you know if it's the same scale, roughly? (i.e. RAT 5-6 is common) Also, I guess boosting means everyone gets some sort of focus equivalent? (i.e. a resource used for boosts and abilities)

Unless there's something really amazing, though, I'll probably be sticking to good ol' IK 3.5, though, given the investment...

Overall stat lines fall in line with troopers or weak solos for entry level characters, while I've seen some folks building high level characters that can reach things like RAT 11 when optimized or min/maxed to a certain extent. So yes the scale is pretty much exactly the same, except perhaps for the rather extreme ends of the character building scale.

All characters have "Feat Points" which can be thought of like which can be though of like D&D Action Points or Dark Heresy Fate points, but replenishing faster. You can spend them to re-roll dice/dodge/activate abilities. IIRC you can only Boost non-combat skills with them boosting combat skills requires more specific special abilities. They're gained through finishing enemies, "Good RP" etc.. it's very similar to any other number RPGs. I'd say the only thing that stands out is that the game intends you to have a lot of these spending and gaining multiple points per session, rather than something that's more of a rare reward.

EDIT: They've also made some revisions to the lore, particularly in regards to magic. For example where in the 3.5 IK RPG gobbers were described as making good if hard to train Arcane Mechaniks & the only race other than humans to become Gunmages, in the new RPG Gobbers completely lack the ability to use magic whatsoever.

I guess I have zero interest in playing with or against somebody's
homebrew whatever. It's just not all that interesting to me.

But it should be all the more thrilling to take your well known and feared caster and strike down some nobody who just hopped off the boat.

That's an off camera stab.

I'd rather watch the main event.

I think that sort of appeal is probably for folks who both play Warmahordes and play the IKRPG. I mean RPG players spending a lot of time with these characters, both their own and the other members of their group. If they've got a long running campaign (4 hrs a week, for 6+ months) what they're playing against suddenly isn't just "Somebody's Homebrew" it's a character they're already familiar with. I think when you've got a group of characters floating around that you know more "Fluff" for than any of the Canon characters you kinda wanna see how they'd do going along side your own army or against your buddy's.

I know for my current Iron Kingdoms game (running on the old 3.5 engine) we've often talked about converting & getting the characters onto the table. It's just a natural sort of of curiosity when you've been dealing with these characters for over a year and they've been interacting with elements you actually see on the tabletop.

If my gaming group picks this up and plays it, I'm going to have my character do this to all the big names in the campaign:

I'm quite certain your character would not receive quite a... gentle sending off if they tried that... can you imagine Karchev getting that sort of attention?

Charcter - "It's you! It's you!"
Karchev - "Huh? Hmm... " *SQUASH!* "Back to conquering"
