I played a game last night and my opponent used a drop pod with 10 Terminators in it. When questioned he said that they were using the Space Wolfes rules and that it was legal with there codex to do this.
It just doesn't seem right to me.

Not at all legal. Terminators of all stripes have the bulky rule, meaning they take up two spaces in transports.

Additionally, the only vehicle that specifically calls out no terms iirc is Rhino and Razor. Other than that, he cheated.

He was using Wolf Guard in TDA and bought a drop pod. "Bulky" rule still applies.

Tell him to read the rules on page 61 under Terminator Armor, 2nd to last paragraph. Then have him read page 47 under Transport, first sentence of the first paragraph. Then have him do the math.

Really? You must have a career in politics. Rather than sling mud like that, look at the real problem at hand. Is it intentional or not? If it's intentional just don't play the person, if it's a mistake (he may be a new player and missed the bulky rule for terminators) really it's not cheaty or waac, it's a misunderstanding of the rules. Since I don't think you were there, you have no reason to throw in a response like that. Just my two cents.

You can always request to see his codex, if he denies you the ability to read it, then assume he's cheating.

This.
I have a friend who was playing that the Daemon codex allows him to act as normal when his Daemons come in with an Icon. No one had questioned it before. He had read the rules the way he wanted to, but when I asked to see the rule he immediately opened the codex, re-read the rule, and admitted to being wrong. I still play with him.

Another TFG I played with told me his SW Counter Attack meant that he charges me when I charge him, meaning I don't get any benefits from charging him. He refused to show me his codex. I don't play with him.

Mistakes and misreadings happen, even when you think it should be so obvious. Its not that they claim wrong rules that makes them TFG, it's what they do after it is pointed out that they are wrong that determines TFG status.

Thanks guys.

I don't think he was a win at all costs kind of guy. In fact the battle was pretty one sided until he dropped the pod. It got really interesting there for a while.

I like the guy but the rules are the rules and I will not let him do that again

Not all cheating is "intentional" (the worst kind). Most is down to simply not RTFM.
The rest is down to crappy arithmetic skills.

He can buy a drop pod for them and drop it empty. He can also put 5 terminators elsewhere with the squadleader aspect. But 10 in terminator souts man in a DP? No sir.

The two most abundant things in the universe are Hydrogen and stupidity.

It was probably just a mistake. Still, you can only fit 5 terminators in a SW drop pod.

Thanks to everybody who responded to my message. I finally figured how he could do his assalt legally.
You buy the drop pod and put a locator beacon on board. Teleport the terminators. All nice and legal.

I was thinking of buying a drop pod and putting a Dreadnought in it plus the locator beacon. Follow up with a shooter Terminator squad teleportred in on top.
Deep Strike Fun.

What do you think?

Not if he was playing Space wolves(the only marines who could even have termies in a Pod); SW termies will not teleport and do not have t he Deepstrike rule on their own.

Vanilla marines cannot get Termies in Drop pods at all(no Drop pod in the Dedicated Transports section of their entry).

So then you get SW who have specific Fluff in their terminator Armor entry that explains why they lack the deepstrike rules(they distrust teleportation). Instead SW WG have Drop pods available as DTs.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Besides, doesn't the teleporter beacon have to be on the table at the start of the turn?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

It is entirely possible(even Likely) that with Drop pod assault the locator will be on table when the termies come in(does not work with SW, they get no locator even though that would assist later Drop pods )

True, but in this case the player dropped the Drop Pod with the Locator Beacon on the same turn as the Terminators, which you cannot do. Like you said, SW Terminators cannot teleport so having an empty Drop Pod with a Locator Beacon would still not make this situation legal. For 2 reasons.

I had remembered something being off about the BT DPA list, Clearly Termies were not it.

I think it was the fact that they cannot have pack-less assault squads(and therefore Assault squads cannot ride).

Oh well, SW and BT; and the BT could do the Drop pod with a Sgt holding a homer dropping turn 1, and Termies locking on Turn 2.

I never crack open my BT codex because it failed me in it's own edition(4th, right? I quit playing for most of 4th)
