Hey guys,

I've got a pretty good network of websites and such for tutorials and whatnot, but I've hit a wall. I've searched here on Dakka, but didn't find anything that really fit the bill.
I want to paint my Thunderwolf Cavalry, but I want to paint them like North American Grey/Timberwolves:

Now, here are my current 3 TWC:

Now, I think I did a fair job at my timberwolf, considering at the time I had no airbrush and did my best with aerosol cans (big mistake, I know). Now, I've found this excellent tutorial on youtube from a guy named buypainted:

This tutorial is quite good, if any are interested. But my only issue is that the darn pups are brown! I considered trying to just flip the browns over to appropriate shades of grey, and toss in the occasional wash of gryphonne sepia for the slight tan variations.

What do you guys think? Plausible? I've seen plenty of tutorials where a guy base coats the pup in light grey and just washes it in black, then highlights the tips in light grey again, but I think it looks like crap.

Let me know, and thanks.

I think your Grey Wolf looks great as is. Although is your dead set on tan colours on it, then Gryphonne Sepia would look great, just a little, thin wash around the grey fur. More like a glaze actually. You want it to get all over rather than soak in.

If you are looking to make the thunderwolf wolf look like the r/l wolf then you can do the tan colours with a bit more bleached bone in the mix.

Personally I think the timberwolf is the best but only cos it has more tones to it. I am not the best painter but the more shades you can get on the wolf the better. The colour on german shepards is all over the place from black to golden yellow and the wolves I've seen in the zoo are similar(though much much lighter).
This guy is very good.

Wow, I didn't really think I did all that great a job. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I think I got the washes mixed in appropriately. I just painted up the next 3 TWC fresh outa the mold, so thanks guys
