When taking tau as allies for another army, do i need to fulfill the 1+ requirement? can i take 2 units of kroot instead of 1 firewarrior unit and a Kroot?

The basic premise of my question is, does the fact they are allies remove the 1+ thing

Allies must follow all the rules of the codex they come from.

This is true.

I am not sure if it answers the OP's question, as I am really unsure of what the OP is asking.

I believe what he is asking is that tau are required to have firewarriors, if memory serves, so he is asking if that is still in effect for allies. which, yes, it is.

ok... i guess i'm not clear

I want to take 2 units of kroot for my allied troops along with a shas el

The tau codex places a 1+ restriction on firewarriros, meaning you always need a unit of firewarriors in a tau army.

Since this is not a tau army, do i still need to take 1+ firewarriors before i can take any other troops?

If yes, please quote me a rule... i'd like to make sure i am doing this right...

In that case yes, you have to follow the Tau codexes restrictions for the Allied detachment. (This is because you have a Primary detachment made up of whatever army that is, and your secondary detachment is a Tau Army).

I cant quote the rule saying this because I do not have a Tau Codex, but you already seem to know where to find the information.

You must take a unit of firewarriors in every tau army list, the codex states this. Therefore you must take one, there is no way to circumvent this restriction, though an FAQ would be nice.

You can only use firewarriors for this requirement, nothing else, it explicitly states being a firewarrior requirement.

Please read the proper codex before posting. You could not take two kroot because the fire warrior are 1+ choices meaning that they must be taken in every list that has Tau.

Yeah, using Tau for allies means you'll always have a Crisis Commander as the ally HQ (no big deal - crisis suits are awesome) and at least one squad of fire warriors.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.
