Do Sheild Drones have a 4+ Invulnerable save or a x+ Invulnerable save?
x+. The Close Protection confers the same bonus to the Invulnerable save.
4+. Codex specifies it.
Undecided, Ill wait for a FaQ.

Lookin for a second opinion here on the Shield Drones on page 31 of the Tau Codex.

It states that they take on the toughness and armor saves of the unit they are attached to. A friend claims that this extends to the Invulnerable save as well.

Im inclined to disagree on the basis that they would have FaQed the invulnerable save to work that way and as it currently sits; Why mention the 4+ in another paragraph?

Anywho, lets hear reasons. :3

What?

They get the same ARMOR save as their owner. Armor saves =/= invulnerable saves.

The Shield Drone has the 4+ save provided by its own rules and the armor save of their owner.

How is this ambiguous?

I understand your point Yak. For clafications sake though, cite your reasons; Preferably with rules quotes. :3

Page 16 listing the different types of saving throws. An armor save is not an invulnerable save, just as it is not a cover save.

Just on a base level, an armor save is not the same thing as an invulnerable save because they do not share the same name. So from that core point there would need to be some rules reference saying that the two things are one and the same for them to be considered the same.

As no such rules reference exists (and in fact the rules say that they are different) then the claim that they are the same is faulty.

Yes they get the toughness, save, and invuln save of the controller who brings them. However no one in the tau codex has a better invuln of 4, but you can take them with say a HQ with the 2+ armor save and that transfers to his 2 drones. HIS drones not the squads drones.

If the drone gains the armor save and toughness of the owner, and nothing else, then that's all it gains.

It doesn't transfer the invul save because it doesn't say it does that. Invul saves aren't armor saves, they don't transfer at all.

The codex says, and I quote "shield drones always have the same toughness and armor save values as they accompany."

And under that it says that the shield drones have a 4+ invulnerable save as well. Armor saves and invulnerable saves are clearly separate and distinct. I don't see how there could be any confusion in this matter if you've got the codex in front of you.

Armour save has nothing to do with inv save.
