It's been about 8 years since I first stumbled into the grim dark universe of 40k, and it was love at first sight. However 10 year old me has never been good at painting. That mentality sort of stuck with me throughout the years, up until recently when I found out I do indeed possess some sort of artistic talent. Oh and patience, I learned a lot of patience.

Anyway I've been practicing my painting skills on some AoBR Space Marines as well as some Shivering Isles (yes, from Oblivion) themed Dark Eldar. But I've always had some love for Chaos, so that's what this blog is going to be about. Chaos.

But first, I'll show you the first things I painted when I got back into the hobby. These are indeed my first real attempts at painting as 10-17 year old me was either no good, or too lazy.

Since then I've changed my painting technique quite a bit. I even went and made myself a wet palette. And with that, here's a sneak peak at my most recent work. I think I've come a long way in the few weeks I've been painting.

You certainly have come a long way in a short time, my first models coming back after a break were waaay worse than yours.

Those mutated guardsmen / cultists / whatever look awesome. You could maybe do with taking another pass at the highlights, but I'll let you be the judge of that since I know how easily that stuff can get washed out by the camera. I look forward to seeing more!

Looking fantastic, really nice muted skin tones in there and the blue fades on the mutated arms are great. I'm getting a great "The Thing" vibe from the dude on the left!

Come a long way indeed, looking forward to seeing more

Those mutant guard look great ;D

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

Nice painting work, and really cool mutant guard! Love the guy on the left!
I myself started one and a half years ago at the age of 16, and it also took me a while till I started taking painting seriously....

keep up the good work!

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

The Catachan mutants look good, is your whole army goig to be mutants and renegades, or are you going to include Traitor Marines?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Thanks for all the kind words. Hopefully I'll find the time to paint up the rest of them and post some pics tonight, but that may be wishful thinking. Maybe I'll post my Shivering Isles (Yes, from Oblivion) themed Dark Eldar that I painted in between those Marines and my Mutants.

For the most part I think I'm going for a mutant and renegade theme. I may include a small attachment of Traitor Marines once the new models/codex drops. And if I do I'm probably gonna do my best to make them true scale.

So here's some WIP pics of the rest of my mutants.

This guy is going to be the sergeant. I plan on adding a banner onto his backpack so I can try my hand at some freehand stuff.

He's one of my favorite. You can't really see it in the pic but he just has this huge smirk on his face that screams "I'm so stoked to have this mutation"

And this guy seems just as unhappy about himself as I am. Probably gonna do a head swap once I get some more mutation bitz.

Anyway I thought I'd also take the time to show off the cause of all these mutations, my rogue psyker.

I've been thinking about putting him on a disc, but I need a little more time to think about that. I also planned on using the other model that came with him as a sort of conduit for his powers. Something along the lines of my rogue psyker channeling his energy into the poor guy using him like a satellite dish to spread the mutations.

Also, bonus shot of my unbased Dark Eldar.

So no update in a couple of days. Although I am making a trade with a fellow for my extra tyranid. A bunch of WHFB Chaos bitz that I plan on using to make my Catachan guard look a bit more on the side of chaos (aside from the glaring mutations they look a bit too loyalist to me).

Oh I also advance ordered my limited edition boxed set, so do expect a nice unboxing!

That rogue psyker is nicely converted for sure. The sorcerer's arms are a good fit as far as scale goes, which doesn't always happen when you grab from different ranges. Looking forward to seeing him painted!

Thank you, I actually took some more parts from that Tzeentch sorcerer lord and put them on him. For example his right arm now has the sword arm. Plus my first time using greenstuff

Really cool conversions and your painting has come on a lot.

Where did you get the arms for the conversions? And what rules are you going to use for them, cultist or guards?

I got the arms from the old chaos mutations sprue.

I'm not quite sure how I'm gonna rule them yet. I may replace the lasguns with some autoguns and run them as cultists with close combat weapons

Quick little update; I got an email from GW that my Limited Edition Dark Vengeance boxed set has been shipped! I hoping it'll be here on Friday, and if that's the case stay tuned for a quaint little unboxing. In other news, I've sort of halted on my mutant guard as I'm waiting for a shipment of WHFB bitz to further convert them into a chaos marauder look as opposed to just guards with some mutant arms. So pics of that will go up once I get those parts, but in the meantime it'll be that boxed set for a bit.
