This thread is in response to the one in YMDC. There isn't a clear answer as to resolving the issue, so why not make a house rule? This would be in addition to the rules in the Codex/ FAQ.

"On a 5+ the Psyker succumbs fully to the Mindshackle Scarabs and must immediately take a leadership test and expend a warp charge if able. Otherwise, the Psyker strikes himself or his unit as per normal Mindshackle Scarabs rules."

So, what do you think? I think it seems pretty reasonable to assume that this is balanced. As always, all CC is welcome and encouraged.

To be honest, the clear fix isn't a house rule, its a house ruling that dictates one way or another, and then to wait for it to hopefully be corrected in the next wave of FAQ's. I'm personally in the camp that MSS allow you to activate a force weapon as long as the psyker retains a warp charge (and retain that position both when I play with and against Necrons), but if the playgroup/store/tournament I was apart of decided I was wrong (through either democracy or TO ruling) I would accept the result, and that would be that. I'm not outright opposed to your method, but I just feel that a house ruling is cleaner, results in fewer die rolls, and will make games move more quickly.

That being said, why is this a 5+? 4+ seems to be a touch more fitting. Perhaps it should be even lower considering how hard it is for a Necron with MSS to catch a psyker that still has warp charges.

I think of it like the suggestion spell from DnD. You can tell them to do things, but it's pretty hard to make them try to harm themselves, if not flat out impossible. The HR is a stop gap until the next FAQ comes out and I think it's pretty fair.

I'd say go like this:

If the MSS controller has a higher LD than the target, then 4+.

If the MSS controller has equal (or lower) LD than the target, then 5+.

But, honestly, I'd say a straight 4+ (50/50) is probably the fairest way.
