Freaky Flayed One

Hi Dakka.
It looks like my next/returning from the cupboard army will be Orks. Also I'm planning of running a infantry army.
I'm wanting to use a few different unit types but with the main focus on assault, 'cos I just like doing things different. I'm not saying assault is dead, I'm saying the meta is more than likely going to be shooting armies, it definitely will be around my end.
So questions....
'Eavy armour on Nobz, yeay or nay? I plan on running 7-10 with a Painboy also in the unit.
I know this might sound a bit dim but just to double check, a KFF works for receiving an overwatch right?
Is it still worth taking 30 man units of boyz with the Nob and Power Klaw?
Also Lootas or Tankbustas?
And are Stormboyz any good anymore?
Thanks
EdO

1. Nobz that are not bikers or Meganobz can tend to not be AS effective. I certainly wouldn't try it in a foot slogging list. Battlewagons are needed, IMO. But if you really want to run the normal, walking Nobz, a big unit with Eavy Armor and Pain boy will survive, but will eat up a LOT of points...and still die to str. 8 blast templates.
2. I'm pretty sure. Any time a cover save is allowed, you get the KFF save.
3. Yes! Despite overwatch troubles, they are still a scary and cheap unit. Even better if you have 2 side by side, your opponent can only overwatch 1 and certainly can't kill them all. Careful with the Nob and challenges, though.
4. Lootas are often more effective long range, but tank bustas have gotten a lot better with their Glory Hogs rule requiring range and such. And Tank hammers are definitely awesome. If ya got the points and room, maybe both? XD
5. Eh, hit or miss. They're still Ork Boyz, and Jump Infantry got better in 6th, but the reason Ork Boyz are great is because they're cheap. Stormboyz are not. Fun? Yes! Effective? Eh... Though their character upgrade is beast!
Good luck on your WAAAAAGGGHH!!!!

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?
The correct audience is you. |

i still run nobs, and orks are my main/only army...
all boys get cybork, 3 w PK, 3 w BC, and 3 standard, no need to loadout shinannigans, just lots of lookout sir!s. personally i always go cybork, not the armor..
i havent really concentrated on the melee, but i used to run a kan wall list, and have yet to win against armies i used to rape, even when i try and close combat >.<
KFF is a cover save, so you get it so long as cover saves are able to be taken
i always take lootas, i have a soft place in my heart for them..
if your thinking on picking back up the orks, you should get the dakkajet, i was skeptical at first, but for 120pts 9-str6 ap4 shots @ BS3 on everything except jetbikes and skimmers, add those 2 to the list for 10 more pts... dakkajet both fun and competitive just saying

Thank You

I would go Cybork, not 'Eavy Armor, on the Nobs squad. It'll save enough points to buy 6 more Orks. I would however, consider the 'Eavy Armor for the Nobs in the individual squads of Boyz. It can help you save a wound before LOS! rolls, and it helps quite a bit in challenges against regular Sergeant equivalents.
If you MUST footslog, make sure to take KFFs, and yes they work against Overwatch (which is not as big of a deal as you think anyways).

If you give the nob 'Eavy Armour then LOS! rolls need to be taken BEFORE armour saves, as you're now dealing with a squad with mixed saves.

Cybork bodies not eavy armor on the nobs.
Yes the KFF works all the time.
I think the power of orks is shoota boys with mobs of 20. That way you can fit in an extra mob of 20. Rather than big mobs of 30.
Lootas definitely. If you want some S8, add 2 rokkits to each mob of 20.
Stormboys are worth it if your primary assault is on foot. They can provide trukk-like speed. Just you are double paying for each stormboy so don't go wild. Their power is still in the Nob so perhaps mobz of 15 if you want to use them.

Ah yes, thanks for clarifying.
The armor has been useful in the era of challenges though; not against characters of course, but that extra 4+ save allows me to kill pretty much any regular squad leader out there with my PK. :p

30 boys footslogging now is really hard. Without cover they die.
They will need a kff and a little bit of luck.
Also they'll want shootas and big shootas. Due to new rapid fire rules, they are very likely to get into a firefight.
Nobs want cyborg armour and some means to get into cc. You'll be so happy if you put them on bikes.
Tank bustas are ok. But again they need cover.
Lootas are clearly awesome and they can find cover or bring their own.
Stormboyz depends on your style. I wouldn't take them for a footslogging army, as they will wait too long for back up.
It is more important to bring st8 shooting, so koptas or buggies, or you may need dakkajets to shoot down aeroplanes(or other things if they get bored.)
If you want assault I would look at trukks and battlewagons. It is no longer the case that orks can spend the time slowly walking across the board and still be in a fit state once they have forced some cc.
