I was rereading my guard codex for the Nth time this evening, and I came across page 81. On that page is a picture of a bunch of catachan chilling out behind an aegis. But wait, this picture was taken some 4 years before the aegis came out.

Was there a model for the ADL years before the actual rules came out, or was it something that the 'eavy metal guys happened to scratchbuild to look almost exactly the same as a future upgrade?

Your one-stop website for batreps, articles, and assorted goodies about the men of Folera: Foleran First Imperial Archives. Read Dakka's favorite narrative battle report series The Hand of the King. Also, check out my commission work, and my terrain.

I might be completely off here, not owning the expansions, but I thought most of the terrain bits started their life for planetstrike or city of death games. Both of which have been out for a while.

ADL, bastions, and the like were released with Planetstrike. I have the WD sitting right next to me advertising their release.

Yep, the aegis defence line was just terrain before 6th edt. Same for the fortress of redemption.

Imperial guard: Because quantity has a quality of it's own.

Sisters of Battle can be used in any game, with the exception of chess, Monopoly and of course, Warhammer 40,000.

After 8 editions, you might have thought that GW could get fantasy right.

There are a number of pieces of terrain hidden in rulebooks that didn't come out for months or even years. The statues of Space Marines can be seen in GW photography going back to 5th edition, and they didn't show up til near the end of the edition. The Bastion is in the 5th ed rulebook in a cruder form, and the back cover of the IG codex has the Battlescape, which didn't come out for a few months after that book came out.
