What is the general consensus on using the DA as CSM from the new starter set by painting their armor black and calling them the fallen? I thought this may be useful to CSM players that want to make the most of the set. But like I said I want to know what Dakka thinks of this.

Do you, bro. Fits the fluff, could be done well; and there's no rule saying you can't.

I think it would it. Paint them like Fallen, and you have a small army.

Or remove the Imperium related symbols and replace them with your own chaos markings and voila nice traitors

If you wanted you could convert them up using Chaos bits and deck them out as Chaos Marines. An easier (and less time intensive) means is to paint them as usual, but defile their armor in a few ways. Paint Chaos stars on their shoulderpads, paint X's across their Imperial markings, and make it look like the Marines were formerly loyal and tried to mark out the Imperial parts of their armor.

Alternately, you can paint them up as pre-heresy Dark Angels (black armor) and have them count as The Fallen, as half the chapter fell to Chaos.

Yeah, that would work well. It would be a good way to get more out of the box, and to save money.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

Exactly my thoughts and it would be pretty badass to have some of the fabled Fallen in your CSM army.
