Boosting Black Templar Biker
|
I'm debating between using lascannon predators or POTMS vindicators in my Black Templars army. Both seem to be decent choices; Black templars have the cheapest lascannon preds (to my knowledge) at 145 points. At the same time, they have access to POTMS for their vindicators, which is an extremely powerful upgrade, increasing its threat range to 36" and allowing it to shoot while shaken (and stunned?). Which would you rather have in a Black Templars army?
EDIT: Just realized I posted this in the wrong place. Mods, could you move this over to Tactics?

I would say a POTMS vindicator, provided you have some tank hunter double cyclone missile terminators for support fire or something else, if your list has nothing long range anti-tank, triple las preads are an excellent, but generally immobile, choice.
A 5 man initiate squad with 5 scouts and lascannon are great objective holders and support units for BT.

What does the rest of the list look like?
I would go for the vindicators as they are awesome in every way. 36'' range and placing a nice big template that can brush vehicles whilst actually targeting infantry. Importantly instant killing nobbikerEQ and dealing with that 2+ armour you struggle against.
Preds are cool, very static. Hide behind an ADL and becomes a nice shooty element. The lascannons complement the missile spam that black templars love.

IMOif you are going to pick between a pred and a vind always take the pred. Better range and can bring the hurt from a far.
The only time you should take a vind is if you are taking 2 or three.
1 vind is scary but lacks range so it can get taken down fast from anything up close, but roll in with 3 vinds and you will just blast anything that come in range. "Oh an assault squad here let me make a huge hole in the ground for you."
"Oh you have a land raider? let me turn that into scrap in one turn and vaperise all the people inside.

I would go with the vindicator, however I agree with the posts before me vindi's work far better in pairs or more, the only downside is that it uses 2 HS slots
I love dropping the big pie plate on my flatmates tyranid warriors and watching them disappear form the battlefield
