Ok,

The other thread died, I think due to the ramblings over my tactical errors in buffing a blob squad, but anyway, after some massaging this is what I have, as against all comers, It lacks AP2 in large quantities I'm afraid, but hopefully through sheer forcing of wounds it could get somewhere:

Primary Detachment of Guard:
HQ (60pts)
Company Command Squad (60pts) (will sit on quadcannon and throw orders to the gun line)
Autocannon

Troops (410pts)
Infantry Platoon (205pts) - (two of these will blob with the woflpriest, the remainder may get put in the vets chimera as a last minute charge for objective guys)
Platoon Command Squad (30pts)
Infantry Squad (65pts)
Autocannon , Grenade Launcher
Infantry Squad (65pts)
Autocannon , Grenade Launcher
Infantry Squad (65pts)
Autocannon , Grenade Launcher

Veteran Squad (185pts) - Was going to put these in the chimera as a suicide squad, but figured maybe I'd be better whacking them in the vendetta and plopping them turn 3 (or 4 depending on luck) onto / behind a nasty)
6x Shotgun, 3x Meltagun, Demolitions
Chimera
Heavy Bolter, Multi-laser (sprint up side and act as threat against tanks, or cuddle up to an objective with the chimera infront..

Fast Attack (130pts) - Obviously an auto-include I believe
Vendetta (130pts)
3 Twin-linked Lascannons

Heavy Support (375 pts)

Hyrdar Flack Tank (75pts) - Take on all the skimmers and flyers floating about (negating the skimmer jink is a bloody godsend)
Heavy Bolter

Leman Russ (150pts) - MEQ killing pieplate, also seems to draw alot of fire, snuggle it up behind the ADL also
Heavy Bolter

Ordnance Battery (150pts) - sit out of sight and cause large wound pools
Griffon (75pts)
Heavy Bolter
Griffon (75pts)
Heavy Bolter

Astral Claws (wovles) detachment:

HQ (110pts)
Wolf Priest (110pts)
Bolt Pistol, Crozius Arcanum, Fang of Morkai,
Power Armour, Saga of the Hunter , Wolf Amulet - was currently using to make guard blob super (Fearless, LD10 (for orders) and 3+ due to ADL)

Troops (190pts) - Drop in first round and deny nasty things (they did an awesome job of holding up and LoS blocking a pair broadsides, then sweeping advancing them)
Grey Hunters Pack (190pts)
Drop Pod , Meltagun , Meltagun,

Heavy Support (115pts)

Long Fangs Pack (115pts) - whallop armour or infantry, smash out some glances on AV13 and 14 until the vendetta pops up
Squad Leader
M/L Longfangs x4

Aegis Defence line w/ Quad cannon (100pts) - at the tournament rules are you can setup 4 lots of 2, so this increases its effectiveness depending on cover in my half, quadgun, cheaper hydra with BS, but alas doesn't negate jink (better for ground troops)

Have 10pts left over I think.

Anyway this list really revolves around holding the line, eliminating threats to my tanks, then mosie-ing up the board to jump/contest objectives.. Also the ability to have a crack at flyers and skimmers, aswell as dish out some hurt on some big nasties. Also as to not taking a manticore, I've had bad luck with it and figured with it being AP4, it kills normal marines just aswell as the griffon, but is much more inaccurate, aswell as for 150pts I can get 2 Pieplates that drop pretty accurately vs 1-3 that could go anywhere. Not sure if that logic is great, but let me know .

So in a nut shell that's my tactics, thus far haven't really seen much support from dakka dakka which is a shame, but I suppose it ain't draigo-wing so it ain't cool .

Cheers,
Nick

Use a rune priest instead of wolf priest. Prescience on a blob is hilarious, still LD10, and ATSKNF on a blob is better than fearless. Griffon is a weird choice; I'd just roll with Basilisk. More killy. Then again, if you're using an ADL, don't really need artillery. Being out of LoS isn't that much of a boon when you can just put tanks behind the defense line with camo nets for a 3+ cover save.

I'd drop the griffons and take another vendetta. Running just one will get it shot out of the sky pretty easily. If you're using the vets as a late-game objective grabber, which you should, I'd swap meltaguns for flamers, and ditch their chimera (no point in buying it 'just cause', it's a free KP that way); use those points on another infantry squad, then blob all 4.

Rune priest casting prescience on a 40man autocannon blob is sick. Any less men, and it's a waste to have a 100+ point IC in it.

Use those 10 extra points you mentioned to put an autocannon on the PCS.

That means, with the Rune priest, you've got:
Rerolls for the blob with Prescience
CCS Orders on the CCS
CCS Orders on the PCS
PCS orders on the blob (FRFSRF pretty much the only order that isn't redundant.)

Otherwise, good list.

Hmm you raise an excellent point, I can do all that quite easily (model wise) except for the second vendetta, would I be better off using the Chimera with the vets, Let the Vendetta piss people off/hopefully pop a tank or 2, and possibly swap out the griffons (+ some point massage) to a demolisher or something (to knock off those bloody terminators that are cropping up everywhere)?/

A massive thanks for the reply mate..

If you don't have the second vendetta, A. it should be your next purchase; flyer survivability goes up exponentially the more you include. B. Demolisher is the absolute way to go. Give it a camo-net, and a seat behind the ADL. It will deter deep-strikes behind the defense line, wreck anyone trying to charge it (Instant death to paladins, nob bikers and the like) and just generally keep your ADL incredibly safe from people getting close, while everything else handles long-range.

A single chimera in a foot-list will get annihilated, just put them in the vendetta and use the points for other stuff. Nothing says "get off that objective" like three flamers and a demo-charge tossed onto a camping squad.

I'm with TheCaptain, Vendetta's for the win, 2 volleys of 3 twin linked las-cannons on turn 2 potentially can ruin seriously someone's day.

Terminators are the bomb at the moment, I would load the Vets up with Plasma and let them go termie hunting once they've stripped your opponent of tanks, Terminators just aren't "that" scary when they have to walk everywhere so nuke the Landraider ASAP
