Hi guys,

My sang guard for my FTs, with chapter banner/icon. Hope you like em, went for something a bit different.

Cheers!

Wow, the banner is impressive, but Im even more impressed by the colour scheme you have chosen for the SG. The red-feathered wings work really well, and makes the Flesh Tearers rather sinister.

Oh the profanities, those are fantastic! Agreed the red really pops and makes them just stand out.

Ps. How did you do that grey? It is fantastic.

Thanks for the comments guys!

The grey on these figures was achieved just through simple dry brushing. I used Vallejo's Heavy Charcoal from their Extra Opaque range (similar to the GW Foundation or Base range) over a black undercoat and just dry brushed successive lighter greys from there. Heavy Charcoal isone of my favorite colours, I find it's the perfect colour for the first hilight on anything black, and it's my go to touch up color. It breaks up any black surface with a really good subtle colour of grey. I use it on just about everything, even my FoW tank tracks!

The idea behind these guys was to make them like living statues, hence the dry brushing. It's a technique I've never used on marines of any type before, but I was happy with the result. I should add this was serious *dry* brushing, I mean the brush was seriously arid. Devoid of almost any paint so it really had to be scrubbed on almost to give the hilights.

I can't take credit for the chapter icon modeling, I had it commissioned from a painter/modeller whose skillz are far superior to mine!

Excellent.

If only the banner was an actual buzz saw blade that span around. Would be a neat way of representing the extra attacks...

Actually, I'm going to make that model, thanks for the inspiration!

Nice, just the right amount of 'possibly evil' about them.

Thanks again guys, all feedback much appreciated. I'll post some other army pics up in the next day or two if anyone's interested? I have almost all the marines done, some bikes completed and am working on a furioso and termies at the moment.

The banner/icon is a chapterhouse studios FT piece, they make them in various sizes to use on vehicles, I think the modeler used some chaos vehicle part for the chain and skulls.

The red on the wings contrasts so well with the black so the models just pop. I also like how the colour scheme makes them look a bit sinister.

Thanks again for the nice words guys - it's this sort of positive feedback that really makes painting worthwhile. I appreciate it.

Myrthan - I actually painted a typical blue-gradiant power weapon on my first model, using my airbrush. It looked good, but I decided that it just didn't look....."dangerous" enough, lol. I wanted the simplicity of the metallic colour of the weapons to add the barbarism of the models. The banner is supposed to be an icon that has been hastily constructed, maybe even on the battlefield, so the "beauty" of the graded colour of the power weapons just didn't match.

Cheers!

Love the models for the most part. I would have liked to see some red on the blades personally and the banner seems a little too big, but that is just me. Really nice models though.
