So my friend who plays Eldar is thinking about running the Dark Reaper exarch and a squad of Harlequins with a shadowseer and plopping them onto an Aegis defense line gun.

Since the Aegis gun is technically part of the squad, does it inherit the shadowseer's invisibility outside of 24"?

It already inherits the other power from some Eldar dude where it can ignore cover saves after all! I hope some of these things get FAQd whenever the big book FAQ comes out.

Why is the gun part of the squad?

so its NOT part of the squad then?

What about inheriting the shooter's powers?

Nothing in the gun emplacement rules suggests that its part of the squad, just that a model in b2b can fire it instead of his own weapon.

Depends how it's worded. It may specify certain weapons, it may not.

Unnessesarily extravegant word of the week award goes to jcress410 for this:

The gun is not a member of the squad and does not benefit from squad abilities, it does benefit from any special rules that affect shooting from the model firing it. It gets these abilities because it is treated as another weapon for the model that is firing.

And a reaper exarch is a perfect choice; though I'd do bastion instead.

Go Icarus Lascannon with fast shot exarch. He can interceptor the lascannon and then shoot his own gun in the shooting phase. BS 5 lascannon puts a serious damper in flyers.

So the Aegis gun uses the 'Manual Fire' rules on page 96?

Or is it somewhere else specifically?

Page 105 - "Gun Emplacement" ?

So, lets say he takes a bastion.

Can he place the exarch at the top, and the rest of the squad on the HBs per side? Can they fire at separate targets? Can the exarch fire at a different target than the HBs?

No, the battlements are seperate from inside the Bastion. A unit on the Battlements isn't actually embarked in the building, they can be shot at and assaulted normally(assuming an enemy model has a legal way of getting onto the battlements)

I prefer Fire Dragon Exarch with ADL and Quad Gun. Now it has Tank Hunter and ignores cover.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
