Epic 40k isn't very popular, you'd be hard pressed to find opponents.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Despite Epic 3rd and (I'm told) 4th editions being decent games, their lack of support means that practically nobody plays them. The only unsupported GW games which maintain much broad popularity are Space Hulk and Blood Bowl, thanks to their being playable straight out of the box. It's a shame, but there you go...

Hi rigged.
If you want to play a wargame, then Epic Space Marine,(Curently fan supported Net Epic, ) and Epic Armageddon are FAR superior to 40k.

If you want to spend ages collecting and painting 28mm heroic scale minatures. Then push them around and roll lots of dice in a totaly hap hazzard way, then 40k is the game for you.Now with more randomnees than ever before!

Current 40k is simply a marketing directive by GW plc corperate managment and it shows.

Epic Armageddon is a great war game that is hidden away from view because it would negativley impact 40k sales to gamers.

Epic has far more synergy with the 40k background than 40k, and has less complicated rules too!

Agree with Lanrak, as a gaming system Epic stomps all over 40k.

Obviously the miniatures won't be everyone's cup of tea, but back in the day my friends and I used to have truly massive battles of 20,000 pts a side, with half a dozen titans or more and entire companies, and it was frikkin amazing!

Real shame that GW doesn't support it really any more. Your best bet now is to go to the 'tactical command forum' for talk about the game, where there is still a pretty active community. Also, the 'Net epic' site which has the fan-adjusted rules which I believe have more or less become the accepted version of the game to play:

Like all great games, even those that get officially no support are still played. There is a community out there. If you are lucky enough to have a responsive gaming group, probably your best bet is to make an event out of getting 3-4 guys to collect an army and start at the same time. Don't buy the official, new stuff unless you have to (it's massively over-priced) but you can still get some good deals, often in bulk, on certain online auction sites.

If you can find or convert opponents then epic is a far, far superior game. It is not very popular any more though (it hasn't been supported in about a decade now).

Epic is also one of the cheapest GW games (if you buy your stuff from ebay).

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.
