Folks at Games Workshop have dropped us a note to let us know that the list of miniatures that popped-up on pastebin a few weeks ago is sadly not a real one. They tell us that the list of miniatures is a hoax, albeit a very elaborate and well-researched one.

On the other hand, another action figure list which surfaced around the same time on German website SF-fan.de seems to be true according to our friends at Herr-der-Ringe.

If you haven’t read it already, TORn messageboard member Miruvorheron has provided a translation into English. Obviously, it’s full of some pretty heavy spoilers!

.. shocker eh ?!

.. One would suggest that this might also then throw a considerable amount of salt on the 40k models in that list too perhaps ?

Kinda meaningless, really. I mean of course they're going to deny it, admitting it was real could supposedly get them in trouble with New Line (if they haven't already), and it kinda flies in the face of everything we know about how the company operates...do we seriously believe GW would not only admit that it made a mistake, but ruin their whole "It's a surpriiiise!" marketing strategy by saying these indeed are future releases planned for the next year or two?

I'm not saying the list is real obviously, just that this proves nothing. If GW were even going to acknowledge the supposed leak at all, they would obviously call it all a big hoax whether or not it really was.

Personally I'm more on the side of "It's a hoax" simply because the list had Tau models on it, and I honestly think Tau will probably go through all of 6th without an update. Maybe a crappy new flyer but I'm not even holding my breath on that one, honestly.

The list may be real, but for me, the lack of fantasy stuff on the list made me wonder. To my best knowledge, there wasn't even finecast stuff being released for current fantasy models.

I could see GW keeping very quiet if the list was real.

I can't see them contacting the site concerned and claiming the list is fake if the list is genuine. After all the truth would be revealed quite quickly would it not ? And then any credability they have -- insert joke or pithy comment of your choice here -- would be totally blown, possibly even alienating people who it would seem likely might well be the sort of peopel who would buy the minis as and when they're released.

And I don't think the site concerned would run this without being sure it was GW who contacted them , rather than random 1st time posters who appear out of the blue.

There are three possiblities - it is true, it is false or some parts are true and some parts are false.

There is no reasonable way to verify this infomation other than kidnapping some high ups and interrogating them (!) So I guess we just assume that its false until we are pleasantly surprised.

I don't think GW did out and out lie over Space Hulk.

I recall Mr. Johnson saying he din't know anything about any release date of the game.

I recall them saying that at GD : Germany they would be making an announcement .. and right at the end of the event there was a little teaser clip that revealed the release date ..

Now us hardy denizens of the web, immune to shock or surprise, hardened and tempered by Google image searches with the safe function off had all been aware of the release for a while. But one has to recall that a lot of people don't spend their working days contributing to the economic collapse of western civilisation by pissing about online when they should be working browsing fora, blogs etc to see what's what.

I'm sure the odd staffer here and there might have made grandiose claims or said X/Y/Z but I certainly don't recall anything similar to an official statement like this purports to be.

In fact the last time I can recall them making any such statement was over the faked/home brewed 40k 6th edition, which they said was fake and not the 6th edition rules.

The FAQs that "leaked" out at the same time certainly weren't genuine either.

Ah reds8n. One way or another this really doesn't prove anything. It is clear GW wants to throw people off the scent but then it could just be they are letting others know that the list is fake and to not get too excited about these things as they ain't coming.

You could argue both ways and the arguments quickly become circular.

You see there is the notion that GW wouldn't bother contacting the site and hope that people forget. That shows that the list must exist.

Or there is the approach that they contact the site and tell them it isn't true. This can't prove whether the list exists or not as they may just want to stop people from getting all excited about a fake list or sticking close to the secrecy policy.

In this instance doesn't prove anything more than we know, the list could be real or fake we can't tell.

All things being equal, as they are in this case, this simply leaves people to make up their own mind.

I want the list to be true so that is what i'll believe. But that doesn't really tell me whether the list is really true or not.

That said just 2 days ago I would swear the list was true, this makes me doubt that. That said it also makes me think that is what GW wants me to think and so the list must be true.

The argument is circular and then so the only reasonable cause of action is wait and see.

I know some of the things on the list are true.

But I still must defer to Aggy's original statement - it's more fun/exciting to live in a world where this list is true than in a world where this list isn't true.

Reminds me of GW's confirmations that there is no immediate Space Hulk or new 40k edition release. GW lied so often, that this statement is meaningless to me.

Is this GW source that said it was false as totally convincing and genuine as the GW e-mail that confirmed the release date of the 40K boxed set (the date was right, it must be real!)?

They also told one of my FLGS employees that they didn't know a thing about Dark Vengeance ...before then going on to say that it wouldn't include anything like 20 Cultists or a so called "Hellbrute". This of course all on the day before preorders, when he was just phoning up to get another few copies set to order.

I agree with the damage control theory.

All it takes is one incorrect item on the list or one item that they change somewhere along the line for them to legitimately say the list is "false" (ie. not 100% correct).

That being said, I don't believe it is real. I'm perfectly happy to dismiss it as a hoax at this point, repudiating my earlier statement.

The lack of fantasy stuff was a deliberate choice by whoever made the list - it said as much, that product codes starting with WHFB's number and products that were re-releases were omitted. This says nothing about whether the list itself is genuine, because the same explanation works either way.

It's the exact same thing here. All paths lead to GW saying this list is false, so finding out that they said the list is false doesn't tell us anything.
