Long ago in the dark mists of 2005 i had the beginnings of a ork speed freak army but it never got finished because the local GW manager was being a dick and drove off his veteran gamers, we not only stopped going into the store we mostly stopped the hobby altogether.

So fast forward to now i've recently finished my latest army but had the urge to paint still so i've dug up my old orks and started painting, at the moment i've got about 800 points and i figure i'll boost them up to 1000pts just for a small fun mess around army.

Would a dakka jet be out of order in 1000pts? its a flyer but its not that heavily armoured so i'd think my enemies could knock it out if they throw enough lead at it, and being a speed freak army i think a jet swooping around would be thematic and distract from the really old and crappy gorkamorka models i'll be using.

Well, one Dakka Jet in a 1000 pt army wouldn't hurt. In fact, it would be fun to play.

The dakkajet is an absolutely amazing unit; for a small price, it gives you 3 TL supashootas firing 3 shots each at BS3 at everything, can only be hit on 6's, has skyfire, and is an awesome model. At 1000 pts, you are unlikely to face another flyer from the more expensive armies, so you should fare well in low points.

I have 2, am rapidly working up to get my 3rd, and probably will go for a full flying circus of 6 before I call it a day! Well worth your time/money!

out of order isn't the question. Each player is given 1000 pts, what they do with it is their business. Take the jet, its an awesome model with awesome rules. If a players being a dick about it, then screw them. Its like a LR in 1000 pts, thats 250 pts he couldn't use on more troops. If the opponent didn't bring anything to deal with it, then thats his fault

I used a dakkajet in a 750 pt game today, and it worked out pretty well for me. That thing rips through transports and is good against infantry, which you'll be seeing lots of in low point games. And yeah, the model is awsome.

Something to consider would also be - would it be fun to play against? Not many armies can fit in enough to deal with a flyer at 1000pts.

You might end up with a list you like to run and no opponents to play against.

It's not like the dakkajet is going to wipe out the enemy army by itself. Games can easily be won without shooting it down.

That doesn't make it fun to play against. I know - I use a Tyranid FMC and my friends don't have anything with Skyfire. Seeing their faces when it flies around and unleashes massive anti infantry firepower every turn without being able to reliably make a choice about whether to do anything about it... yeah, I feel bad. I'd stop using my flyrant if I actually had a regular Tyrant.

Thats why i started the thread, i like the jet and it'd fit the theme of my small force but not having played 1000pts in years i dont really have a point of reference for how hard/easy it is to deal with.

There are also people who frown when you put down basic troops like boyz or necron warriors.

It's not like a couple of autocannons and heavy bolters can't bring down a dakkajet. Either you care enough about it to "waste" some shots on it, or it wasn't that bad in the first place. I wonder why so many people complain about dakka jets, when your aforementioned tyrant is much harder to kill while on the ground.
Just because you can't point a single gun at it and hope to destroy it, doesn't make it indestructible. The model which has killed the most dakka jets in my games so far is actually a lascannon predator. Between four rolls to hit usually one is going to succeed, and S9 AP2 doesn't end well for AV10 vehicles.

The Dakka jet is AV10, it's not like it's impossibly hard to kill, unlike of course the flying hive tyrant you're using that is T6 with at least a 3+ armor save

The OP should defo use a dakka jet. Or 2, if you drop a little from your 800 point list as Dakka Jets are slightly more than 100 points.

Lascannons have definitely brought down my jet before, and autocannons, and missiles. I've had it get shot down by massed bolter fire on a couple occasions as well. 1 flyer is nothing to cry cheese over, especially one that's AV 10.

Considering the cheap and available Quad Gun Defense Line, if they didn't take it or another answer to a flyer, they were taking a stupid risk.

As another Ork player, I have found 8 lootas to be an excellent answer to enemy flyers (until my own dakkajet is up that is) and they are still a good unit to have for all the damage they can do.

I had my first game against Orks this past weekend. I brought a Stormraven (BA allies) and he brought a Dakkajet. He called a Waaaagh, or whatever it is, on the turn it came in and he absolutely laid my Long Fangs to waste with 18 shots. That was pretty rough.

The next round, I dropped it with a lucky plasma shot. It's thin, it demanded immediate attention, but it wasn't anywhere close to cheesy at 1000 points.

Run with the jet.

If I can bring two leman russes at a 1,000pts, you can bring a dakkajet

I wouldn't be afraid of it, but then again, IG isn't exactly hurting in the shooting department, especially at killing av 10

It fits the theme, its great fun to use and it really does bolster your army at 1k points.
More than worth taking imo.

If someone complains, then its a DE player that has only got splinter rifles to fire at it as anything stronger brings it down.
Bring it in, lay waste to what you can but dont expect it to finish the battle lol.
