There have been a few very interesting posts centreing around what would happen if a primarch returned and how the Imperium would react to this. My question is slightly different.
How would a primarch react to his vastly changed chapter(a long period of time will have passed) and would both sides be able to interact with each other? I can't see it being plain sailing as the primarch would have lost all that was familiar and the chapter(especially the new masters) would be very wary of their famed leader, simply because they will have built up an impression of the character of the primarch and as you know meeting your heroes may well turn into a disappointment.
The 2 that come to mind for me are Guilleman and Johnson. I think Guilleman may have the easier ride and would adjust quickly and his chapter would follow, and a little blindly maybe? . I also think that he would start trying to control the imperium and with the Ultras successor chapters in support, he may well do so.
In the case of the Dark Angels Johnson is a more complicated character and perhaps cause confusion with the present leadership, what would his objectives be? I can't see him pursuing the fallen apart from Cipher(even then for some reason I think Cipher would return to the chapter). Would he bother about the Imperium? Personally I don;t think he would. The chapter might even be left in disarray as to how they go forward; what are their goals/objectives with Johnson back in command?

I think this is the main focus of 40k Space Marines, attempting to live up to the hype of the legend of their Primarchs, who have been elevated to demigodhood in the eyes of their chapters. Introducing flawed characters back into the Primarch position would not work well in the setting so it won't happen.

Knowing Lion, his primary goal would probably be to attempt to assume control of the Imperium, at least as far as its forces go. I mean, he really did want that position of Warmaster back in the Heresy.

Plus, he would really not like being under the thumb of the High Lords of Terra.

As for the Fallen, while i doubt he would be open to the rest of the Imperium about it, I think he's too pragmatic to focus on keeping chasing down traitors as a priority, so he might make the Dark Angels stop suddenly leaving in the middle of battle to chase a Fallen sighting half way across the galaxy. If there's any reason he would have to chase the Fallen, it would probably be due to the insult of his pride.

They are probably drinking much more because of the soul chrushing imperium....

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

Considering how Jaghatai is based off of Genghis, I would not be surprised at all.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I doubt Guilliman would try to assume control of the Imperium. He held that post for a time but specifically wrote the Codex Astartes with the Marines as the defenders of the Imperium, not the leaders. The Lion would probably try to take over, after all in my eyes he's more a traitor than Luther ever was.

They'd likely be a bit annoyed he pissed off with all those cool toys instead of leaving them on Nocturne where they can actually use them...

Hm, I don't think Lion would won't the throne - during heresy he was just paranoid...

Nah, Lion was pretty much buttmad ever since the Emperor chose Horus as Warmaster over him. This went to the extent, that he almost stopped the Heresy before it began, but gave a bunch of essential stuff the traitors needed that he won from them to Perturabo, who promised to support him for his bid as the new Warmaster.

Not to mention, the Lion is too prideful a person to ever let ordinary humans hold rule over him.

I can't see any of the Primarchs kowtowing to the High Lords in any case. They might treat the Fabricator-General and whoever's there for the Navigators as equals, but I doubt they'd be impressed by any of the others.
