I finished finding and scrapping together some parts and modeled my first Valkyrie; however, the heavy bolter sponson just didn't satisfy. I wanted my one flying unit resemble an AC-130 or a black hawk more than a Huey from 'nam.

Therefore, I humbly propose the rippercannon.

ze fluff:
Spoiler:
Though uncommon, rippercannon is a favorite of regiments whose Valkyries are called upon fill every role possible. While dangerous to fire at any decent speed, the rippercannon offers versatile fire support in a pinch. The rippercannon fires high-velocity AP slugs that any infantry will find useful in a pinch.

Ze rules:
Spoiler:

The Valkyrie can be outfitted with up to two
-rippercannon sponson......................................20 points each

Rippercannon: Range: 36 Str: 8 AP: 2 Heavy 4
Range: 36 Str: 6 AP: 2 Heavy 2

for an extra 5 points, the rippercannon may choose to be loaded with explosive ammunition. This gives the weapon the following profile:

Rippercannon (explosive ammo): Range: 36, Str: 4 AP: 5 Heavy 4, Blast, Rending

Special rules:

Recoil!
The rippercannon was not meant to be mounted on such an unstable platform, and thus special precautions must be taken to fire the weapon. The rippercannon may only be fired while the Valkyrie is in hover mode. Additionally, only one rippercannon may be fired at a time.

So, what do you guys think? I did intentionally try to make the points a bit over-costed, as in my opinion it's easy to simply scale back points and I'm still getting used to 40k. I chose the name rippercannon because the prefix "ripper" refers to marbo's pistol. Anyways, I'm hoping to hear your thoughts!

Gotta echo chris here. Something equal to far superior to a lascannon in almost all aspects for cheaper?

Perhaps, but It can't be mounted on a vendetta. Maybe 30 points for 3 TL lascannons is undercosted, but that's what I based it off of. Also, the special rule means you're not going to get the survival rate of zooming around.

But, your point is made, so howsabout:

Str: 6, AP 2, Heavy: 2

hmm 3 lascannons for 30pts.... Sounds totally right priced mate. Also i feel that the special rule is utter sillyness in the warhammer 40k universe. Shell size never stopped anything from firing right. I do like the last form. How about this.

for 30pts the Valkyire can be mounted with two Marbo-Pattern IV Skull Ripper Cannons.

Profile - strength 5 ap 4: Heavy 4, small blast, Pinning, Ignores Cover.

The shell is a high explosive that is capable of melting, and eating through all, but the toughest of armor. As such, even foes taking cover shake in their space booties as high pitched squeel similar to a raptor followed by a quaking boom from a artillery piece promtly licked in every inch by hot oozing life grabbing fire.

These weapons would be the main mounted weapon of the aircraft, over that of the sponsons. And as such in addition you can have the standard heavy bolter options.

So being able to switch from anti-MEQ to an Orks/guard/nid rape machine for 5 points extra?
Doesn't 4 blast templates seem a bit much? Especially with a dual fire mode?

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Since the Ripper Gun is Str 5 AP 5 and akin to a giant automatic shotgun (think of a 8 gauge Pancor Jackhammer), a ripper cannon should likely be a scaled up version of that, so something like an automatic 2 gauge shotgun. So perhaps Str 6 AP 5 Heavy 6 twin-linked, or perhaps Str 6 AP 4 heavy 3 blast, with blast representing more like a single shot and the individual shots and the spread (they are being fired by aircraft after all). As for Marbo's pistol, I always interpreted it as a pistol version of the ripper gun that fired some special AP ammunition.

Hmm i have decided, Strength 6 Ap 4 Large Blast, Pinning! for 35 pts! this replaces the main weapons the plane can have.
