Hey guys, im planning to theme my ork arm around urban enviroment...
The ideia is: an asteroid with ork fungi fall into the deeps of a Hive World, some weeks later the orkz start to apear around the deep slums. The city planet will soon see a Waagh!!! From INSIDE o.o
I found some things about this, specially the ideias for "ruined slums", but i want to see what you guys have to offer before i start ^^

Sit back. Think hard on the concept.
How exactly do you want to go about this project?
Do you want something to tie in thematically across the entire army, or will each unit have a specific style of basing exclusive to that unit?
Do you want a "shantytown" look, ala the stereotypically portrayed favelas? A rundown "City of Tomorrow...Today!" look?
There's a lot of room here for something awesome, provided you're willing to put the work in for it.

Not a Shanty Town per ser, more like a Shanty town in the future. I imagine a hive world like the one in "fifth element" movie, with even more levels UNDER the "ground".
This waaagh!! will start at the deeper levels, those under the ground, where Gangs fight for survival, and no drop of water or mouthfull of food is pure (normally, just the junk of the higher levels). I mean, the pittyless holes mankind will someday produce in the big cities.
Maybe i go to higher levels if the collection expand enough, i dont know, maybe im just starting to tell a great history of a great Waaagh!!!
Initially, the terrain should tie the army together, resambling those "deep slums" im imagining...

Im thinking about use some "urban ruined terrain" technics, adding some high tech bits here and there, and paint it in blue/grey tones... Give me some ideias

The big problem is how to convey that it is "underground".
It is not something which can practically be done, at least without some serious effort being put into it.
The best thing I can think of (at least for the moment) is actually creating a "tie-in" display board, with a pseudo "roof" on it which gives a bit of shading to the models themselves.

Yeah... i cannot see myself building a display for 70-80 models
But maybe i can use another ideia...
Maybe a concept like they where on slightly higher levels, alredy on those levels where plataforms and bridges cross each sector... And them just use a textured display with a well planned background...
Im starting to dismiss this ideia... maybe i should stick with the classic desert theme for orkz... kkkk
Or just go for a classic urban ruins theme

I would say the urban ruins would be best, at least since you are discussing a "basing theme" rather than a "display theme".

Grungy industrial style bases would certainly be more interesting than desert bases, but yes, i don't see any way for a base to imply 'underground' as such.
Seen Champ Industries plastic industrial bases? http://www.champindustries.net/bases.html I have some and they're great, especially if you add more details for variety.

An underground theme would tie in well with a very dim-light style paint scheme with lots of OSL.
|

I think your best bet is to base them in like knee deep in green sewer water, with a few pipes. Maybe even have some of the pipes running up vertically, rats, trash, etc. Also I would paint the ork skin in a pale color to represent that they have spawned totally void of sunlight. Maybe give some of them armor made out of refuse like tires. I'm envisioning the Teenage Mutant Ninja Orks
