Hi Dakka - I've been modelling all my SMs as WYSIWYG lately, using spare Krak grenades from the Assault Squad box to represent their whole armament. I'm starting to run out now, though, and I don't know of any other sources for them. Where can I get Krak grenades or similar substitutes, preferably not as part of a larger kit?

We'll find out soon enough eh.

eBay bitz retailers are your best bet, here's one in Australia, $1.70 for five + shipping(I can only see their international price).

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Small balls of GS with a curl of plastic at one end? Krak grenades are quite simple shapes.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Maybe use green stuff putty to make IG frag grenades smooth and then add a putty band around the middle of each grenade?

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

If you're going the buying route there's loads of bits stores online, not to mention ebay.

If you scratchbuild, I'd suggest a small round plastic bead, piece of styrene rod and piece of styrene strip. I threw this together for demonstration, using a pinhead. Can probably get a box of pins like that for next to nothing. Alternatively just cut up a thicker plastic rod for the grenade itself. Might look more like smoke grenades we're used to though.

Tau Fire Warriors come with a whole bunch of grenade bits, and noone ever uses them. I'm not sure what official krak grenades look like - the photon grenades look nothing like a real-world grenade, but they are small enough that you might be able to just fudge them anyway?

I just looked at the Tau versions, and they're not a terrible match, but if you're fussy enough to not want to use frag grenades, I guess you want the official krak genades rather than just something granade-ish..

PMed you re some spares I have.

The only other source I've come across is the Chaos version - a single krak attached to a pistol holster - probably no use to you unless your marines have spare space on their hips to fit a holster and krak, and of course the presence of the pistol doesn't upset WYSIWYG. With a little work, the holster could perhaps be converted to a general equipment pouch, i suppose...
