G'day been a lurker on Dakka for some time now, thought I'd better sign up.
Coming into 6thEd I wanted to do a new army and had thoughts about doing a siege themed Imperial Guard army, and came up with the following:
Company command squad-145
-4x meltagun
-chimera
-hull heavy flamer
Veteran squad-155
-3x meltagun
-chimera
-hull heavy flamer
Veteran squad-155
-3x meltagun
-chimera
-hull heavy flamer
Veteran squad-155
-3x meltagun
-chimera
-hull heavy flamer
Infantry platoon-340
Command squad
-autocannon
Infantry squad

-autocannon
Heavy weapons squad
-3x mortar
Heavy weapons squad
-3x mortar
Hellhound-135
-hull heavy flamer
-smoke launchers
Hellhound-135
-hull heavy flamer
-smoke launchers
Hydra flak tank-75
-hull heavy flamer
Hydra flak tank-75
-hull heavy flamer
Medusa-155
-hull heavy flamer
-enclosed crew cab
-bastion breacher shells
Medusa-155
-hull heavy flamer
-enclosed crew cab
-bastion breacher shells
Manticore-160
-hull heavy flamer
Manticore-160
-hull heavy flamer
Although this army is just for friendly battles, any advice or criticism to a new guard player would be great!
Cheers,
rbladeRockWallThief.

Its a very good list .... its NOT very friendly ;-)
What is your friend playing?
There is not much to say actually.
You have classic mech guard with artillery fire support.
Lose the hydras , throw in a vendetta or two and your set for any tournament.

I still love my hyrdas, they hit one or two bullets against ground targets and that heavy bolter is another three rounds at ground targets as well. I still feel their worth the points especially if its a skimmer heavy army. Looking at you tau, eldar, dark eldar, every flier in the game. Automatically Appended Next Post: See how they do in battle and adjust from there, you can get 2 more artillery carriages for basilisk guns at 75 pts a pop thats a cheap large blast template, or a squad of rapier laser destroyers that are a twin linked LC at 40 pts a piece with Toughness 7 on the gun itself and its ordanence!

Thanks for the feedback guys!
I thought someone might bring up vendettas, but I really want steer clear of flying things in this army to keep the theme, but if I get around to it I might keep it as a backup when I go to a tournament.
My friend usually plays tyranids with lots of saturation and MC's (hence the spam of autocannons) or he'll play Chaos(general MC spam again with terminators).
as a general question which of my vehicles should have heavy flamers and what should have heavy bolterss?
Cheers,
RockWallThief Automatically Appended Next Post: Just read up on the new skyfire rule.
Makes the Hydra not really worth taking as only 1 person at my local gaming club even runs fliers!
It's really a shame, because I wanted to model them with a turret similar to a FlakPanzer Wirbelwind. :C
May aswell take a couple of griffons now, or is there something better to spend 150 points on?
Cheers,

...a Vendetta? LOL j/k
Well, for starters, maybe demolitions doctrine on your vet squads? And, with the remaining points, I'd say either trick out your CCS or add a Commissar to your platoon.
Also, I counted 4 heavy support choices (Manticores can't be squadroned). But, you have 4 troops, so you could spend 70 and buy a Primaris Psyker, or a Lord Commissar and just attach him to your platoon and voila you're legal.

Thanks for the input Tiberius.
I do think the doctrines would go a long way.
However it was my understanding that in 6th Ed that when you hit 2k your force organisation doubles?
I still don't know what exactly to do with 60 points after getting grenadiers. I would grab Marbo but I can't think where to drop the 5 points from.
Could I buy thudd guns and centaurs for 150 points?
@BunkerBob, Where can I find the rule for the rapiers and gun carriages, are they in an Imperial armour?
hows this look:
Company command squad-145
-4x meltagun
-chimera
-hull heavy flamer
Lord Commissar-70
Guardsman Marbo-65
Veteran squad-155
-3x meltagun

Yor FOC doesn't exactly "double". You get to take a 2nd FOC, so you'll still need the prerequisite 1 HQ and 2 troops. Therefore, in order to take more goodies (like a 4th heavy slot), you need to have at least 2 HQs and 4 troops.
Like the changes to the list. If you're still looking for where to drop some points, I'd say cannibalize one of the autocannon HW teams in the blob. I'd say Marbo's worth it.
