LOL, dude looks so.... happy?

Was there a shipping issue or are sword replicas not allowed in Japan? I hope he gets a real sword eventually.

Yah. I think it's about importing sharp things into Japan. So it's not really GW's fault.

Still....

Japan has some pretty strict weapon laws. Japanese made swords (katanas or what not) are pretty much the only things allowed. Even those have to be registered after being examined by experts.

From the website (translated obviously)

Unfortunately, due to the provisions of the Firearms Control Act, such as possession of Swords (Swords and Firearms Control Law), we can not bring in Japan a Slayer Sword. However, there is no change to the fact that the champion of the Golden daemon NIPPON won the Slayer Sword, in UKHQ of Games Workshop, Nottingham Slayer Sword the name of the champion has been engraved, it is enshrined in a small room dedicated become. However, if the house is located on the outside of Japan Champion Fortunately, you can send the Slayer Sword's possible directly from the United Kingdom. Christopher was a good luck. We decided to send the Slayer Sword HQ branch office in Germany, is a modest award ceremony takes place. Photos of award ceremony has arrived, I will introduce the design on this blog again!

Well that's an ... interesting solution.

Some years back here in Oz, due to GW misunderstanding the weapon laws in one state, GW temporarily changed from a sword to a 'Slayer Shield'... Surely something similar (changing to a different trophy, or even a plaque with a stylised sword on it rather than an actual replica weapon) would have been a better option than 'Here's a paper (badly-)cut-out. You can have a sword if you leave Japan...'

in L.A. one year it was a warhammer...
Liliana Troy won it...
they could have gone that direction...

GW spends so much time fitting things into boxes that they have forgotten how to think outside the box...

That's an interesting solution. I wondered if they emailed the SlayerSword.jpg attachment in case that one got a coffee stain .

Good detective work all. Funny stuff.

The Military Museum here in Trinidad has a huge exhibit of swords from around the world. When I asked about it they explained they got them all from stuff customs had confiscated.

Given that the market is so exclusive, you'd probably end up
paying a mint for something like that.

Could have made a cheap replica to suffice for the ceremony there or at least used decent paper, printed it in colour, glued it to some cardboard and cut it out for a stand in until he could get the real thing.

Though, it'd probably just be easier to use shields or just something that isn't a weapon there for future events. I sort of find it hard to believe no one knew until the last second so had to fax it over to him.

I think a custom model would have been appropriate.

Cosplay is big in Japan. So why didn't they just buy a legal imitation sword made for that market?

Or change it from a sword to something that can be passed off as a tool. The hammer is a good idea. So is an axe.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

What's he to do? GW might've just awared the title to someone who was willing to pose!

He's still got the Sword on his "record" as a painter I guess.

Perhaps someone at GW took the saying "Whilst it looks good on paper..." a little too seriously.

That's what the blurb says. Ma55ter_fett translated it.

As it stands, the Slayer Sword is engraved with his name and in the Nottingham HQ "enshrined".
From the way the bit that Ma55ter_fett reads, Christopher is an American who has ties to the military as the blurb talks about how he is "in luck" as they can send it to the HQ branch in Germany where another award ceremony will be done for him.

From the way this google-translate translation reads, I would guess Christopher is a German and GW will send the SS from GW HQ to a GW branch in Germany where they will have a little ceremony.

Just so that I am clear here.

There is going to be a ceremony in Germany for a special German, for the arrival of the SS from the Reichstag (the nickname for GW HQ).

Please tell me I'm not the only one who read that like that. Please? Anyone?

I think I see what you are trying to do there, but...

A) Since when is the Reichstag the nickname for GW HQ in Nottingham?

B) The German Reichstag burned down in 1933 and was not used or restored during the reign of the Nazis (who weren't really keen on parliaments).

Besides that, there will be a ceremony for the Tau he painted. The Sword will presumably be shipped in to be part of the ceremony.

Erm, since forever. At least amongst the Nottingham taxi drivers, who refer to GW HQ as "The Nazi building".

Which makes me wonder how you draw the link to one of the very few historic German buildings - along with Frankfurt's Paulskirche perhaps - which actually is something of a testimony to fledgling (and later doomed) democratic buddings predating the Nazis. As said, it was a burned-out shell literally left to rot by the Nazis when they had their say.

There is clearly no shortage of Nazi-Architecture in Germany.

Presumably because it's a famous German building with the word 'reich' in it. But yes, the Taxi drivers call the big grey building with the Eagle on the front and the stormtroop outside the 'Reichstag'. If you get a taxi from outside the train station and ask for Warhammer World they know where you mean, but I have in the past heard them call it that. It's a local nickname, meant in jest.

When the thread said paper sword, I thought some form of sword from cardboard/paper - but that's just embarrassing to not even have a proper alternative trophy.
