Hey guys!

My last few threads have been about me tossing and choosing between an army to start, and ive gone with imperial fists!

Ive brought the current SM rulebook and Lysander to start me off. and i was wondering.... im going for a purely aesthetical army, so i thought i could buy the MK II iron armour from forgeworld and use them as my tactical squads alongside the contemptor dreadnoughts and such. im going to try and paint this army fully and even use..... TRANSFERS! :O

so this army is going to be my little project, Can you guys think of anything else that would give my imperial fists army a unique and solid look?

Sure you can use Forgeworld.

And a solidly done IF army will look very unique no matter what models you use. Just get it painted....! That yellow will speak for itself, trust me.

By the allfather!...your willingly going to paint all that yellow, your mad sir MAD!

The forge worlds new armour kits are nice i plan to get some for my iron warriors and spread them around my squads though its a bit pricey to make a whole army out of for me.

Contemptors are nice models i have one for my SW and he's put many a traitor to death, just make sure you put the lower legs on right.

As siege experts you may want to include vindicators or ironclads for thematic reasons.

While not anything about actual models - learn how to paint yellow.

Seriously. Yellow is one of those colours that is a nightmare to get right. Set aside some models as test models, and paint sections of their armour using different paints - different bases, washes, layers, etc, until you've got a yellow you'd like on your whole army. Remember to relayer that yellow - a good, solid yellow will take a good 4-5 thinned layers over a wash to look right before you even highlight it.

Once you get a good yellow going, you'll have an army that truly stands out from the rest. Unique models will add to the awesome.

A noble cause. I would say many a meltagun would help work with the seige look

Having painted a few Imperial Fists, I've found that a white undercoat, followed by a watered down Foundation (or whatever they call them now) yellow, a sepia wash and a final 'heavy drybrush' of golden yellow works quite well.

They come out more 'industrial' yellow rather than a pale yellow (which was the idea), and a few people didn't like them, but there you go. Check my gallery if you like

If you're going to go all out and get Forgeworld Marines, at least learn to freehand the Fists icon! It's not very difficult to learn how to do it; just practice on a piece of paper a couple times. Transfers rarely come out well, and tend to tear. Some people can make them look great, but not everybody can. Freehanding can look excellent with a little practice!
