So i read the renegade or whatever the dark eldar book is called and i must say i enjoyed the way the kabals were organized for me i always fancied low commaragh becasue while i still love intrigue i love how evil the high class is.

The CS lewis feel is almost stiffling at points of their fluff but less about my feels what do you like and even dislike about dark eldar fluff

Wherever and whenever they appear they leave only destruction in their wake; they are the Lords of Death, Bringers of War. The Dark Angels.

Oh, you think the darkness is your ally, but you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!- Helen Keller

the way that within the Kabalite system, so many folks take advantage of any Chaos that starts. like when Vect came to capture an Archon from the arena or when an army of Orks stumbled upon the city. it's the perfect time for infighting.

That's because CS Lewis read celtic mythology too

The DE are unseleighe Sidhe, with some hinky Pazuzu-goes-to-town vibe and a dash of Frankenstein/Cronos thrown in.

The eldar are heavily based on celtic myth (the Seleighe sidhe side- the nicer ones) including the craftworlds being named after old celtic holidays and the aesthetics. Mkes sense that the darker cousins would be too.

My favourite part of the fluff has to be the Covens though. Very dark and gribbly stuff

Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts

Menoth - 300+ pts

All this intrigue stuff is too confusing for me. Too much Just as Planned. My favourite part is the slave girls

Being based off of elves, that's not surprising. Plus, the not-so-secret Tolkien origin of the name "eldar."
Celtic holidays, eh? I guess we'll have to start pronouncing their name "sow win."

Tolkien didn't originate it, though he's the main source of it meaning 'elf'

Tolkien jacked most of his ideas from norse myth, including names, places, languages...

Not surprising given that he was an expert on Ancient Norse IIRC

yea i loved the idea that dark eldar are so advanced it seems like magic. I love the smaller kabals, i mean mine is a bunch of smaller one combined.

I have a perverse sexual lust for Lady Malys. I think she's my favorite female character in the mythos.

I enjoy the Dark Eldar codex as a whole. It's a really good codex as far as the fluff.

The "Beauty Relinquished" fluff entry on page 22 of their Dex relly highlights why I appreciate Phil Kelly.

same, i love duke sliscus so far i love how the kabals were created by vect in the fluff. When i consider that i can make each squad sifferent colours so far i want to do a worn wraithbone style with metal touched in like in soulstorm when the dark eldar took wraithbone. The codex gives them the sinister feel that i come to expect with the exact style i expect on the table speed is better than plate mail.

I hope the duke gets a nice model same with the decapitaor and vect.

I've always understood that "eldar" is Sindarin for "star people"

hmmm very interesting and it makes sense, the fantasy elves are very much tolkien and cs lewis based.

Wherever and whenever they appear they leave only destruction in their wake; they are the Lords of Death, Bringers of War. The Dark Angels.

Sindarin being a language Tolkien created for his elves.

The word Eldar is far older If i recall correctly it's literal meaning is 'fire warrior' or something similar in Old Norse.

Ironic that..

Yes, Tolkien based his work heavily on Celtic and Norse mythology.

He was the first person to have Elves be tall fair folk, IIRC. Prior to him, elves in various mythologies were more like leprechauns then 'perfect' humans. Santa's elves pretty much.

The modern Fantesy concept of Elves is almost exclusivly due to Tolkien.

Dwarves are pretty much unchanged, although tolkien popularized their image and fleshed out some of the major details.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

The Sidhe are 'tall, fair folk' in Irish myth. Human+ iif you want to look at it that way:

They had a thing for human women too, which just makes them hinky..

Tolkien brought it all together, and an awful lot of Fantasy is either based on his work, or deliberately avoiding it's archetypes

Norse Ljósálfar (light elves), as mentioned on the Eddas, are also angelic in looks and nature, and "fairer than the sun to look at".

Interesting enough, the Eddas also mentions dark elves.

Current depictions of the Dark Elves, however, borrow heavily from the Alps of german folklore which, as Grey Templar said, look less like the blond, tall elves of celtic/norse myth and more like lascivious goblins or twisted leprechauns.

That said, I'm too in love with the Ancient Rome meets 17th Century Tortuga meets anarcho-capitalism that is Dark Eldar society.
