I am in a bit of a dilemma atm. I have my warriors of chaos warband sorted for now until the new stuff comes out. Now I am looking towards my little vampire attachment for storm of magic stuff. I want it to be fluffy so modelling, painting them as a very wintery look. I will just be using skeletons mainly for the core, fallen marauders and maybe some warriors and dire wolves as fallen hunting dogs.
My question is what other things would be fluffy for a bound vampire made to ressurect various creatures of the northern lands for example any trolls, ancient empires from the north? For unit fillers I can only think of fallen hounds but what creatures are typically found in these lands? Thanks Dakka for any help you can give, I have little knowledge of the various bestiaries of the warhammer lands. Also I am not too knowledgable on unit fillers entirely, are they generally accepted, are their any criticisms of them? Obviously I am not going to make a dragon as a seleton unit filler.

I like the idea of skeletons and fallen marauders. Zombies might work even better, since you could mix and match parts with your marauders and have some truly authentic looking models that fit your army. Chaos Warhounds becoming Dire Wolves is also a cool idea.
I have seen some awesome unit fillers in White Dwarf. Vampire Counts may have some of the coolest options for them. From what I've seen unit filling is usually done on a cavalry base or monster base depending on how big you want your mini diorama to be. Some examples of things I've seen include making a swampy base and having skeletons emerging from the waters. You can put a skeleton on another's shoulders, it adds height and the skeleton models look great when posed in wacky situations. You could use corpse cart zombies, piles of bodies or zombies that have been chained together. Hell you could have a zombie troll in the middle of the unit eating all the other zombies.
If your filler looks good and has been made for variety, not to quickly fill the unit, I don't think anyone would give you a hard time. More likely they will be impressed with your conversion work. They encourage it in White Dwarf so you should be fine.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee. |

Yeah Vampire counts imo have the best options for unit fillers because well anything can be a zombie/skeleton Saw a pretty VC army in the newest WD and the zombie unit had zombie ogres which looked cool.
I was thinking about zombies as it lets you keep some of the flesh and armour of the models as well probably being the easiest to work with. Noticed rhinoxxs (spelling?) roam the north so might do a unit filler for marauders of a couple trying to restrain an armoured rhinoxx.
Need to wait for the new book first hehe, wanna see what the supposed new marauders look like

Depending on your Chaos patron you could likely use alot of undead as normal Chaos followers as well - in particular Nurgle has its own Zombies and many of his followers will look like the walking rotting dead.
I think Vampires and Chaos are usually foes as Vampires don't really want thier food source completely slaughterd or mutated. Necrarchs may be an exception to this but also their unchanging nature is an anathma to Chaos as well.

The only problem with the zombie thing is I dislike nurgle Khorne is my main patron
Yeah, the handler thing with the wolves does sound cool thanks.
Did creatures from lustria often get traded into the northern lands? I just think they would die quickly in such contrasting conditions. Would love to have a carnosaur count as manticore mount.
