I've been working on developing an original Space Marine Chapter, taking inspiration from the Dark Vengeance kit. My chapter, the Steel Wings, (fluff available in the fiction section) would be led by their Master of the Forge. I finally received the Techmarine I ordered - the single pack, not the one with the Servitors - and eagerly set to work building it with a number of planned conversions.

I had to carefully cut and reshape the resin to make room for a new head - a simple Iron Warriors head that looked intimidating without the appearance of chaos iconography. Ever shaved down pewter? Pain in the ass. I also gave him a cybernetic claw that will act as a Thunder Hammer.

I assembled the torso, and finished the arms, and noticed a slight oddity, that, at the time, seemed minor. I had two of the same right arm. I should have known then...

After cleaning the servo arms, I noticed a distinct lack of backpack for said servo arms to attach to. I then realized that the two top servo arms were both lefties.

Son. Of. A. Bitch. I got two of the same sprues and never noticed while I was focused on cleaning other pieces.

I was not prepared to give up on this, and hit the bits box to find a solution. Nothing in the marine bits - no packs that even come close to suitable. Same with my Chaos bits. The various other doodads I had lying around we're no help, either. I had just bought a box of Necron Wraiths to cannabilize for bits, and pulled out those sprues. It took some experimentation, but the torso proved a good fit, featuring four sockets that I used to attach the servo arms, and some small claws to help cover up the problems with the top left servo arm socket. I popped a faceplate on top to resemble some kind of connector, and called it a succes. After roughly three hours at it, I had this model to show for my efforts.

Nice looking FotF. The twin plasma weapons and big servo arms look really imposing alongside that head and claw.

I've been sitting on that idea sice I first saw that Techmarine model, saving those Iron Warriors. It's just for this project. I don't know if I'm 100% sold on the base - it looks like it needs more, but I really like how the rest turned out.

Another question...didn't think of this before. The figure is really wide, which is partly why I chose this base. Would it be legal in games? Opposing figures really can't make contact with the basic circle base, but could with this. Would this affect playability?
