Well, right now I am trying to add a glow effect to my thunder hammers in the assault terminator squad for my BT. So far I think I have the shading down pretty well, and this is my first time doing it on a hammer so I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. My only problem is I am using a black base for the hammer head, and it sort of gets lost in the model because, the terminator is black as well. Anyways take a look at him and I would like some tips on to really make his weapon 'pop'. I was thinking of making the effect on all the corners of the weapon, not just every other one like I have now.

Looks good. I think you would be better off leaving the blue bits as they are. If you color every corner it would look a bit to uniform. Instead put a thin and dark glow effect along the edges of the hammer and have these new highlights taper off as they approach the non-blue corners. I think this would give the appearance of a "power field" around the hammer with a couple parts of it flaring up. Picture this on the "blue parts" of the hammer.

This would also make it a model that gets more interesting as you get closer.

Looks very good and remins me of a tutorial I saw which I put into practice. Might give you some hints.

Maybe try and base the hammer with a very dark blue instead of black. Something like Necron Abyss or whatever the new name for it is.

As for making it pop, making freehand some lightning between the tips.

Look at this youtube video to see what I mean:

I like it, really looks like energy pulsing through it. I wouldn't mess with it any more.
