So I remember reading somewere that every suit of terminator Armor has a small piece of the Emperors armor embedded into the Crux on their shoulder pads. This got me thinking about how certain Chapters can make their own TDA,( Salamanders, Iron Hands, Dark Angels) Are all new Term Suits lacking this added bit of awesome or do they have molecules of the Emperors Armor on tap that they can place in them?

The fluff as far as I know is that they no longer produce Terminator armor because of the lack of know how in the 41st millennium. If this is the case then they no longer need fragments of the emperors armor but then again I may be misinformed.

Wrong they do make new suits, it just takes very long time. So finding/repair current ones are a more practical way to do it. And yes I recall reading somewhere that they do have a tiny pice of said thing on that

I view the idea like the "pieces of the true cross". If you cot all the pieces together you could make many "true" crosses. In short only a very few suits of TDA (probably in the older chapters) will have an ACTUAL fragment of the emperors armour in them.

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

Yep, the story from old books (back to 2nd ed) goes that they take a miniscule sliver from the Emperor's armor and place it in the Crux. The suits can still be made, but you're gonna be looking at chapters like the Salamanders for new ones, Mars pretty much just dumps out MK VII suits. Haven't seen any fluff about much else on the creation of Termie armor.

Laziness is no excuse.

This has always been my assumption; indeed I strongly suspect it was the writers' intention to evoke this very parallel.

Where's an account of "new" Terminator Armor? Everything I've read always talks about how they're prized and ancient suits that are considered relics in a Chapter.

Who's to say the Crux Terminatus itself isn't produced on Terra or Mars and shipped out to the different chapters as needed and then they can build their suits of Terminator armour from there?

The original fluff when the Terminator boxed set was first released (WD108, I think?) was that each Terminator Captain's crux had a piece of the Emperor's armour inside, so that cuts down dramatically on the number of bits of armour required

I remember something about TDA suits being made to stand against plasma reactors, but I don't know anything about the Emperor's Armor

Like most things the IoM use they were based on STC and usually had less military applications. The Crux Terminus is a post heresy construct attached onto terminator armour. With the fluff about the sliver of the Emperor's armour being in a Captain's crux only.

New Terminator armour is made but in very small amounts, such as for new foundings, however chapters such as the Salamanders do have the ability to make new ones. But like artificer armour it is a long and engrosing task for a techmarine to make one.

I like the idea of Techmarines knowing it, but it being really hard

The oldest reference I can find is in W40K 2nd edition, the UltraMarines Codex, Page 23. It talks about each Crux having a tiny fragment of the Emprah's armor, and that Captains and Vets from 1st companies use different designs that have it but may be smaller, wearing them to signify position and authority. I'll peruse through 1st edition and see if there is anything there.

Laziness is no excuse.

In regards to the rarity of Terminator Armor, you have to remember that its primary use is for boarding operations. The reduced speed and bulkiness reduces its effectiveness in open areas.

On page 17 of 1st Edition W40K Rogue Trader, the blurb on the right hand side of the page describes what you are talking about, BluntMan. It says that the Emperor told the artificers that because of the heroism of a squad of Imperial Fist termies, who distracted Horus long enough for the Emperor to kill him, that the armor he wore should be taken off, melted down, and the pieces be made into badges for the Captains that join Terminator squads.

Laziness is no excuse.
