I was wondering if anyone's store does this. I walked in to an lgs and was looking to get a couple rhinos for my dark angels. They were out of stock so I asked if they could order me some. He said they could but I would have to pay the shipping. It kinda startled me actually. I've never been charged for a products shipping in store before. Is this a new thing now for stores?

That's super weird. Don't stores get free shipping based on the size of their account with GW?

Ridiculous. What's the incentive not to just order them online, then?

Likely they use their website as an epos system as well.

My reply would have been along the lines of, I'll be happy to pay the shipping in exchange for you price matching any number of online stores. If I have to pay for shipping there is NO reason to pay full price from a gaming store.

Thats pretty dumb, Ive never heard of that. Usually if you order something the store simply adds it to the next order from that vendor, no extra shipping involved.

IMO the store was either trying to make a few extra dollars off of you, or trying to discourage you from buying something they dont have in stock.

And that's why a lot of FLGS have a hard time staying in business.

the problem is they never re-stock that i can tell. If i buy a model that spot on the shelf will be empty for months. Their selection is also very hit or miss with the odd elite unit here or there but none of the basic stuff like troops for each army or standard transports. It feels like they were trying to penelize me for them having to order stock. Very weird

Not restocking inventory, no standard shipments from their vendors, charging customers for shipping for special orders rather than using their weekly vendor shipments...

That is odd, I know my FLGS does it in the way it is ordered then shipped(granted it takes 2 weeks, which is why i dont use them much) But i dont have to pay shipping.
I agree with saying online prices, many of those places offer 5$ shipping, if they charge more then that, just go online and get some.

That's the oddest thing I've ever heard. Was it the store manager/owner or one of the lackeys/new people who may not know the store policy. My mind, shady as it is, goes to the scenario where the skeevy new guy charges you shipping and pockets the extra $5.

If it's legit, just buy online, wait a week, and save a bucket load of cash. Alot of online places won't charge you shipping after a minimum amount $75, $100 is paid. So with that you get discount, no tax if you're lucky (8% is huge mind you), and no shipping.

Weird, unless they don't use GW as their distributor or are the base base level of stockist, they should have free shipping

I shouldnt be but I am still amazed that store owners and managers do not follow basic priniciples ( that are true for the majority of retail).

As I understand it the store is owned anr rune by a group of indiviuals. I believe their main seller is MTG and they seem to be very competitive online seller for the cards so the store isn't going anywhere. Its just with other products in store that they tend to not want deal with.

I'd rather not name and shame, plus I believe thats againts forum rules.

I was wondering if I buy the rhinos online do they come like they are in store with the boxes or just the sprues. I like to keep the boxes for the artwork as a reference while i paint.

They come with boxes depending on where you purchase them from. You should ask the specific online store which way they do it.

Fair enough If MTG is their bag then there probably isnt much chance of changing their attitude.

They come just like you get them in the store. Except for GW online only models, they come in a white box.

I've heard its better to buy the razorback model rather than just the rhino. Does the razor back have to other piece to turn it into the rhino or do you just counts as for it. I'd really rather have what you see is what you get.

That seems ridiculous.

Then again, you can buy from my "Friendly" (I use quotes, as they've never done a GW event other than 1 odd painting contest that only had 3 entires...). LGS:

1) Buy what they've got in store, some of it is older and thus, has the older prices that haven't been updated.

2) Let them order online for you. Full GW price, you have to wait for it to come in, then pay NY sales tax on it...

The Razorback box is just in a Rhino with a extra sprue for the weapons in the box.

GW have now cottoned onto that and have increased the razorbacks price a bit.

If you play blood angels, it might be worth having a look at the terminus ultra set as well. It's pretty good for letting you convert a baal predator into a normal one if you have a spare autocannon lying about

Interesting business model. I'm guessing they make their money selling M:tG?

The described scenario seems bizarre. Any normal store will have an account with GW and/or a distributor who sends them their regular weekly (maybe less often, for these guys) shipments of product. Books, games, etc. The way any normal store does it is just adds your request onto their normal order, and gets it in along with all their regular supplies, no extra shipping required or applicable.

This store doesnt want your money.

Luckily plenty of webstores do and will probably give you a better price and ship to your doorstep.

OP: Seriously though, just order online, 'cause if you have to pay for shipping, it's not worth shipping at your LGS unless there's a cute girl working the counter or something of that sort.

Or if you dont want to wait, if there is a GW or other FLGS around you support them.
