I was looking through some of the space marine models and I've decided to start a small army. It's around 1000 points, but that isn't important. One question I have is, what chapter does this collection of models resemble most closely?

Chaplain
Assault marines x10
Tactical marines x10
Scouts with bolters x5
Stormtalon
Devastators x5
Sternguard x5

I liked the look of an all infantry army with minimal vehicle support. The only problem is, I don't know which chapter to paint them up as. Thoughts?

It's probably easier to say which chapter's your force doesn't resemble, and then you can pick from all the rest!!

Not White Scars (no bikes)
Not Iron Hands (no dreads)
Not Space Wolves (no wolves)
Not Blood Angels (not enough blood and assault marines)

I suppose that doesn't narrow the list down a lot. I think you should go for Imperial Fists. They're a solid Codex Astartes Chapter. They'd have units like you have.

Do the models I picked strike you as a gunline? I mean no criticism, I'm just curious.

Its a gun line with a solid assaulty core. Overall, you could do much much much better, but its not bad

Trust me, I know it wouldn't be very good. This list isn't really about performance, it's just roughly 1000 points of the models that I liked. I just wanted to discuss what chapters this list is most similar to, so I know how I should paint them.

Why don't you....

GENERATE YOUR OWN CHAPTER USING THIS HANDY TABLE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Step One
Generate a name.

Roll 2d6 and apply your result to the table below.

2-Red
3-Angry
4-Black
5-Blood
6-Angels Of
7-Crimson
8-Dark
9-Imperial
10-Emperor's
11-Knights of
12-Sons of

Now roll another 2d6 and apply your result to this table.

2-Swords
3-Anger
4-Absolution
5-Astartes
6-Death
7-Blood
8-Wolves
9-Axes
10-Eagles
11-War
12-Redemption

Now, take the two terms or words you've rolled and put them together. For example, I rolled a 9 for the first table and a 3 for the second table, so my Chapter's name is IMPERIAL ANGER.

Step Two
Generate an army composition. This is to determine what kind of warfare your Chapter specializes in, if any. Roll 2d6 and apply your results to the table below. Then roll again and apply your result to the table below again.

2-Assault oriented
3-Defense oriented
4-Codex Astartes Compliant
5-Guerrilla warfare oriented
6-Infiltration oriented
7-Fear based warfare oriented
8-Codex Astartes Compliant
9- Shock and awe oriented
10-Vehicle oriented
11-Codex Astartes Complaint
12-Infantry oriented

I rolled a 3 on this table, so that means the IMPERIAL ANGER Chapter usually fights defensive, siege oriented battles. Then I rolled again and got a 6. So, the IMPERIAL ANGER defends Imperial bastions by infiltrating the enemy and outmaneuvering them. How a group of 8 foot tall human super-soldiers would be able to infiltrate anything besides Chaos Space Marine ranks is up to the imagination.

Step Three
Now we determine what effect the geneseed has. Roll 2d6 and apply your result to the table below.

2-Normal
3-Vampiric
4-Canine
5-Normal
6-Onyx skinned
7-Pale skinned
8-Normal
9-Unusual bloodlust
10-coughalphalegioncoughcough
11-"Normal"
12-Normal

I rolled a 4. This means that the IMPERIAL ANGER Chapter, which specializes in infiltration based defense, has a geneseed that makes them canine in appearance. This makes infiltration even harder.

THERE YOU HAVE IT! IN JUST THREE EASY STEPS YOU'VE GENERATED A BEAUTIFUL SPACE MARINE CHAPTER!

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Byte. They sound like UMs or another heavy codex based chapter like Imperial Fists.

@LoneLictor, that was very amusing.

I rolled the "Dark Axes". A Codex Astartes compliant chapter whose tactics are Shock and Awe oriented. Their gene-seed is normal.

I now have an incredible urge to paint some of these so-called Dark Axes.

Wow, this is awesome. Everybody make way for the...

ANGELS OF EAGLES CHAPTER!!!

They use their INFANTRY specialisation to achieve SHOCK AND AWE on the battlefield. This means that rather than bombard with tanks or flyers, they just throw their troops at the enemy meat grinder style... instead of throwing a grenade or rocket into the enemy trenches, they just lauch themselves over the edge instead! Very Astartes-like

Finally, their geenseed is "Normal". Uh-huh, I'm guessing the parentheses were put there by the other chapters, who look on in wrapped bemusement at the ANGELS OF EAGLES getting blown all to hell. LOL.

What, you mean like the guy above you?

What about if you roll a five and a seven... you get Blood Blood Marines.

Krieg! What a hole...

The Imperial Absolution Chapter, using infiltration tactics to infiltrate things (rolled 6 twice in a row), how they can do so is a mystery, as they are a bloodthirsty bunch.

You do realize that the chart is out of one of the death watch add on books that has been dumbed down a little, though it is still a cool way to make a chapter, just the death watch book is more elaborate and goes into the chapters fluff.

Do you really think the Angry Anger wants more elaborate? That might just make them.. angry.

Make up your own. It looks the most like the Crimson Fists out of all the canon Chapters I've seen, but that doesn't actually mean anything since the canon Chapters represent less than a percent of all Chapters; make them another branch of Imperial Fists successors if you really want to tie them to a canon Chapter.

Ahahaha! That totally reminds me of /tg/'s homebrew cchapter 'The Angry marines' who, IIRC, have the Marine launchers (a large ML that fires marines at the enemy) and also have a larger titan weapon that fires land raiders at the enemy.

Another weapon of theirs that I love is the 'Adamantine two-by-four with a nail through it'
