Not really. Eastwood's speech was pretty bizarre, but that's a gesture referencing a form of violence that's pretty independent of race. Lynching, on the other hand, carries a very different connotation of racism.

Concur. Clint's old coot act didn't come off as racist, IMO. Lynching is another thing entirely.

I've seen worse. Just individuals making a statement for effect. A grown adult can make his/her own decision on what he/her wants to do on his/her own property. He/she has to live with the consequences afterwards.

How do we know that they want to lynch Obama. The critics and the blogger asumed that they do. Perception a mofo. Now if they actually had a effigy of Obama then I would mind. To me they just hung an empty chair up in the tree that represented Obama on a Clint skit. They should have put the flag upside down for a better effect. As for worst thats easy. Croats and the Serbs cornered that market but instead of hanging it was mass execution.

Nobody is forbidding them to lynch chairs. Nobody implied that they would want to restrict these people's freedom of speech. But it's ALSO freedom of speech to tell the chair lynchers that this might be rather bad taste, here on the internet and there on the street. That's freedom of speech, too, innit.

I think this is one of the funniest things I've seen this week.

Allowing people to foster hateful and untrue views is only going to benefit America in the long run.

As for the constant European jibes; I'd rather have a society that limits speech yet makes social progress, than one that lets anybody spout hateful untruths and has very little overall social progress.
