I'm just curious. Will 40k fans be universally miffed if they find you fielding a non 1k-Sons army? What if you say they universally wished to favor him as their lord? Or made a pledge of some kind perhaps?

Not at all. Thousand sons are a bit too limitative for my tastes too...

This is perfectly fine.
Thousand Sons arn't the only Tzeentch worshippers.

For exemple, the Chaos Marines in the Space Marines game were apparently Tzeentch oriented.

True, you won't have non-thousand sons rubric marines. But Count's As thousand sons are fine.

yeah, you should avoid the Rubric Marines, but to me that's obvious... since Thousand Sons = Rubric in my mind.
I want to make a Tzeentch army based around craploads of cultist and lots of spawns/brutes.

Makes you wonder how it actually is in the current Chaos Space Marines codex....
...in fact is there any place I can check out the change to their rules for this version?
(And is there any way GW will replenish their stock of Limited ediions given that they only came out today and are already sold out? lol)

Perfectly plausible. Icon of Tzeentch on everything lends itself to a gunline more than anything else, but consider the possibilities with the insane durability of bikes (Jink, 5 Toughness, 3+ armor, and 5+ Invulnerable), the increased chances of getting Raptors close enough to use Hammer of Wrath, and the general durability of Obliterators.
Actually, the reorganization of the Chaos section of the GW website indicates that you aren't going to have the Thousand Sons problem for long, they've been moved into the Elites section of the website (along with Berzerkers, Plague Marines, and Noise Marines), which suggests that you'll be fielding an army composed of regular Chaos Marines for Troops anyway.

Yeah guess so lol. Also seriously awesome stuff in your gallery sir - wtf @ that ork dreadnaught!!
@ Anomander-That is interesting...but wait I don't have a chaos codex of any kind really - are you sure those bonuses you were talking about wouldn't only apply to Rubric marines?

So it seems that Icons on Lords make the appropriate Cult unit a troops choice.
I like that.
So under 2k you can only have 2 different Cult troops, above and at 2k you can have all 4 in the same army.
I wonder if Abbaddon makes all 4 cults troops?

Frankly, I think it'd be a bit of a stretch tyring to claim that they're the ONLY tzeentch worshippers.

Honestly, I would say that it isn't even a stretch to make a non-1KSons rubric army.
It's a fluff-fact that the Sons have been split into warbands, with Arihman having his own little private militia, for example.
You can certainly make a fluffy backstory that details an aspiring 1KSon Sorcerer becoming disillusioned with his legion and striking out on his own with a small army of rubric marines.

I'm also not using Thousand Sons as the original Legion for this War Band. Knock yourself out, man. Can't wait to see them painted! Tzeentch was good enough for Horus, after all.

I'm gonna give a shocker here...but I made this thread for the girlfriend XD
...and OH MY GOD does her paint scheme and emergent lore for her Tzeentch guys make them the single most enthralling Chaos army I've ever known/conceived of... If she really pulls this off I can't wait to show it to you guys, and all it will take is for her to be a little patient. I think she's going to do it!
Thank you guys for the help; it's given me ideas to share with her, and reinforced my belief that she is treading on perfectly solid ground
