Somehow I missed announcing the event here, oops.

http://wargamingtrader.com/infinity/autumn-challenge-2012

This will be a two day map-based campaign weekend.

It'll be using a mix of the experience system and Spec Ops from the new Campaign: Paradiso book, YAMS cards and some custom missions and will involve several teams of players searching for a crashed alien spaceship.

Main discussion thread over on the Infinity forum:

If you're a newer player and are near Evesham, check out the intro event at Total Wargamer on the 20th:

Round 1 Mission:

Mission: Recon

Backstory
The different factions are scouting the area, trying to gain information from the enemy while not loosing too many soldiers.

Forces
150 point lists, no single model more than 40 points.

Start & Deployment
Four turn game.
Random deployment - deployment zones are 18" quarter-circles from each corner. Use a d4 or similar to randomise which corner one player gets and a d3 or similar to find out which 'empty' corner the other player starts in.
Initiative - roll WIP, the winner can choose to deploy first and go first or deploy second and go second.

Special Rules
Searching for info - Unconscious and Immobilised enemy models in base-to-base contact can be searched with a short skill and a successful WIP roll with no modifiers.
Dragging - unconscious/immobilised enemy models can be dragged at half speed as part of a short move skill.

Objectives
1 point for having successfully searched one or more unconscious/immobilised enemy models. Searching G: Servant and G:Sync models doesn't count.
1 point for having any active models in base-to-base contact with unconscious/immobilised enemy models at the end of the game.

Either
1 point for having more than a third of your models still active at the end of the game.
Or
2 points for having at least half your models still active at the end of the game.

Overview of the campaign background:

The Time
The campaign is set around 2180 in the days just before the First Paradiso Offensive when the Combined Army arrived. The various Human factions are in disarray, being too busy watching each other to realise that there are aggressive aliens invading...

The Place
The campaign takes place within the NiemandsZone on Paradiso, an O12-controlled area containing several ruins and traces of non-Human remains. Supposedly the area is off-limits to exploitation by the Human Sphere factions after the excesses of the Neocolonial Wars.

The Why
The major factions are still smarting from their exclusion from the NiemandsZone. After rumours circulate of a non-Human spaceship crash landing in the mountains of the Niemandzone, a covert gold-rush is on to be the first to reach the spaceship and analyse it's contents.

Due to the extra-covert nature of the expeditions, there is limited contact to the chain of command and the various players' forces don't realise that war has broken out elsewhere - all they know is something odd is going on and there are aliens turning up in odd places.

Note for Combined players - the Shasvastii Ghostships on surveillance have confirmed that no Combined Army ships are known to have crashed or landed in the area, this must be another race that needs investigating. As the Humans are not yet aware of the full CA Expeditionary Force, lull them into a false sense of security by pretending to ally with them. For now...

There's a bunch of players coming down from London on the train, but I can imagine that that'd get a bit complicated from Potters Bar...

The Spring Challenge is likely to be around March 2013.

Nah, London is easy to get to, theres a fast train to Kings Cross that takes 15 minutes....didnt know there were more people making the trip from my sort of area (well, London is kind of my area...)...

March sounds more like what i will be able to make (need to buy more minis/paint and assemble the ones i have...and learn to paint, that might help...o and actually play a game! )

Im tempted to jusyt make the journey for one of the days actually, just come and observe and maybe play a demo if theres a table not in use...ill see what i can do.

thanks IJW!

After some test games of the first mission last night, some tweaks to:
Stop games that take place entirely along one board edge.
Limit HI to make it feel more like a scouting force.
Change the balance of points toward grabbing enemy soldiers to reduce castling.
