Hi guys. I'm thinking about getting into the peaceful and loving world of Warmachine.
I've been given the opportunity to buy some models from my friend and I would like to ask for advice from people who actually know what is going on.

Two questions:
1) How is this currently worth? 50%? 60%? 70%? Is there significant differences between metal and plastic (apart from obvious ones)? What is 'accepted' discount for used, metal PP miniatures?
2) More importantly: How powerful is this army? I mean I have absolutely no idea what's good and what's bad. I'm not going to participate in any tournament so it doesn't have to be tops but I don't want to get complete garbage. How is that for a foundation for a bigger army?

FYI: This would be just a "side" army. I want my main to be different one. I just want to have a secondary one to lend somebody for a quick game or to have a base to increase to full fledged army in the unspecified future.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Good things are good,.. so it's good

It's worth about $100 new if you got from an online retailer with a healthy discount like Miniature Market, maybe more like $130 new full retail. $85-$90 is probably a fair price for the models if they're basically in mint condition.

PP Plastics are far easier to assemble than their metal ones, but are a noticeable step down in detail (no game changing but more than you'd see in a GW plastic vs metal). Metals have marginally more poseability, but they're all pretty static.

It's not an army. It's a caster, a loose collection of warjacks,a medicore unit and a solo. I mean you can legally field this as force mind you, it'll just not perform very well at all.

EDIT: Most of the pieces are solid are their own merits, this just doesn't constitute a coherent force. If you stuck to "Mangled Metal" format games (Warjacks only) you could put together something serviceable.

secondhand models are usually 55%ish of retail. The metal battlegroup has the same models as the plastic one, but older models are still less desirable, so I'd say it is worth 40% or so.

Out of thoselisted, the battlegroup, sether, and pistol wraith are probably the only desirable ones.

Helldiver ain't bad.

Drudges on the other hand... ::shudder:: About their only real use is in the eLich theme force where they gain Advance Deploy and give you a free unit of Overlords. And then their only real job is to get in the enemy's way and die.

This. I think price-wise and what you actually want is spot on. Myself, I don't like glued together models because it is difficult to pose or modify them. And Seether is a good solid model, but alot of people like to go with Deathjack or one of the other character jacks so he might get shelved, too. But the battlebox is a good way to learn, especially if you only pay $20-25. And a pistol wraith is a very good solo.

Also worth noting, you will probably need to get two more units to make a competitive 35 point list. Basically you are looking at Deneghras for your caster 2-3 arcnodes, the seether and the pistol wraith as the start of a list that comes out to be about 25ish points. So you got about 15 more to play with for a 35 point list.

As an additional aside, if you pick up the Withershadow Combine, their Dark Industries ability can turn jacks that they scrap into independant bone or helljacks of the appropriate size. When you do this, you only want to create focus efficient jacks. Commonly the helljack created is the harrower (has reach, thresher, runs on souls, has a ranged attack that ignores LOS) or the seether (high MAT, 3 base attacks, high P+S, Smash and Grab, runs/charges/slams/tramples for free) The Bonejack created is the helldiver or the stalker, niether of which is ESPECIALLY GOOD, but not terrible, especially if you have a siren.

6th edition lands on June 23rd!

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.
