Y'know, If you applied some critical thinking, you could probably sort it out yourself.
Especially since you've asked an online community, your going to get a lot of opinions on whether or not you "should" add them to your troops.
In my opinion, there are better FA options for orks

Mekboy on Kustom Deth Kopta
|
you seem to be implying that storm boys were every really... good...
an ork boy is 6 points, a stormboy is 12 points the difference is deep striking and more travel distance but not double the points travel distance and unless you take boss zag they cannot assault out of deepstrike so that isn't even really an option unless you want to spend 85 points and lose d3 boyz. so i can take 30 boyz fror the cost of 15 stormboys who share a statline... though i will give that at least the stormboyz come with stikkbombz so hey i guess they are only 5 points more expensive per model if you were buying your boyz stikkbombs (i never do)
all in all they are on par with flashgitz for one of our more useless units... long story shortl just invest in dakkajets and rokkit buggies

It's a shame too, they're such cool looking models and really easy to convert.
You can probably make them work more than some other units, but they will struggle in certain situations. At least they're the fastest jump troop in the game. Being able to move 18'' in the movement phase alone is nothing to sneeze at after all. Of course, rolling a 1 for that extra movement really sucks.

I like them. While their not the most cost efficient ork unit, they can get the job done if you know how to run them. For a while I was running 3 full squads of 20... I had a ton of fun with them and they did extremely well for me. Its all in how you play them. If you set them up for as a counter assault unit and use cover, their awesome.
However, I do agree... there are better fast attack choices... I just really love the models.

The stupid thing is really their cost. Dubble the price for longer assault range.
Compare that to Space Marines. For 2p they get the same. From 16p to 18p.
Sure, they dont get the extra D6 move. But they have the right price.
Another thing is that their low initiative means they will die a few before they can strike.
The normal sluggas can take that because they are so cheap.
So they cant really handle tough elite units, they will die before they can strike.

I think people have forgot hammer of wrath which they get.
20 auto hits at I10 isnt bad, not before you bury them in normal attacks aswell.
All in all, they are nothing amazing, but they arent too bad either.
Points cost is a tad high, and boss zag really is a must, but all in all they aint bad.

I love stormboyz. They look great and if you use them can be quite scary to the other player. Unfortuneatly the only way Ive found them of any use is deepstriking them but only if I buy Zagstruck. Then after i sacrifice d3 of the stormboyz i can roll to see if i assault. Then die horribly to overwatch sometimes.
Besides is it even possible to be serious about competition level ork play? take lots of goofyness and no one will have a counter for all the crazy orkness anyway.
Still praying for that double 6 on the shokk attack gun chart. plenty of double 1s.

That sounds good, until you mention they are str3 while doing it. So against the horde of MEQ your going to have a hard time hurting anything. Hell, even against T3 your failing half your wounds.
I think they would be classified as a 1 trick pony in 6th. Take Zaggy, and DS into assault with a unit you REALLY dont want doing anything at the moment. Other then that, something else in FA will do a better job

Yeah, it's a pity.
For the cost of a full unit of stormboyz with Zagstrukk you can get a ridiculous amount of dakka from buggies, bommas or bikes, that will just wipe the target off the map for you instead.
I'm hoping they get an awesomeness infusion when the Ork dex gets redone, and i still run them occasionally for fun, but the entire FA section has them beat, unfortunately.

Yeah I really like stormboyz even if theyre not as good as their points cost suggests.
If you take Grotsnik and give em all invuls gets really funny. Doesnt always work but when it does man its hilarious.

Agreed completely, and as mentioned before, that sucks, because the minis are just awesome looking. I think they are up there with the best looking Ork minis hands down. BUT! They are eh at the best of times. Im sure in our next dex, they will get a nice umph to their stats and points. As always, just thinking about what didnt sell well, and expect it to get better this time around

When you accidently get a first turn assault you'll be loving them.
Or Zagstrukk lands and works.
They die like ork boyz, but that is the ork codex.
If you have a fast list that can use their pace and keep up with them they'll perform well enough.
However, there are so many great options for orks fast attack, as has been mentioned. The flyers may be useless in a few weeks time but ork buggies are very solid choice to lesser extent are koptas, all of these options are good at ranged antimech which you need, rather than the cool jump pack goodness you want.
In terms of models I prefer the 2nd models, which better fit their fluff.

That's really the weakness of our codex. We get dozens of special weapons on our squads in return for no survivability at all. But unlike burnaz, lootaz, warbikers, tank bustaz or even kommandoz, storm boyz don't have anything over regular boyz, except for one small S3 blast. Speed just for speed's sake doesn't justify their point costs.
Zagstrukk has gotten a lot better though, since aggressive deep striking is a lot less punishing, and rerolling 2d6 +1d6 charge range makes getting the charge much likelier than when charging 6". He still costs an arm and a leg points-wise.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

I use them out of love and not tactical merit, They do make a good distraction though, I know they are pricey, but you would be surprised how many times I have got trukks full of Mega armored Nobz or my self healing mek and burna boyz battlewagon into places the enemy really doesn't want them to be because they gunned down my Stormboyz. I used to love using Zaggy and Snigrot with their posse DS and infiltrating, getting a few kills before dying in a holy storm of dakka, while the real threat, my green tide and kan wall eat up the precious distance. This was only viable in 2000 point games and worked maybe 40% or less of the time. Still, one the most enjoyable and fluffy armies!
