Does the Imperium keep measurements of planets' GDP? How do they compare economic output of worlds?

I guess information on this is pretty sparse but I'm a massive nerd and I love stuff like that.

No, Really planets are independent entities whose only connection with the imperium is the tithe and worshi of the God-emperor

There isn't an official monetary system in the IoM, so there is no record of a GDP to be kept.

The GDP you'd be looking for would be the tithe system, as the Imperium spends lives and ammunition as its unofficial currency. That at least has loads of data for you to peruse through.

Each planet has a tithe grade depending on how productive it is.

And how do you measure production?

By the rate of which products are produced. In the case of the Imperium it's normally personnel for the Imperial Guard.

Doing some digging in my 5th Edition Rulebook (there are other sources though) we see that the IG section says that the Civilized world of Valhalla tithe per annum (I assume that's per Imperial year... you're guess is as good as mine here) is greater than 50,000,000 soldiers.

So as an example, Anterio II, the Hive sister city to my capital has an tithe rate of 2,200,000,000 soldiers per annum - matched with equipment and weapons suited for some of my finest Korzacks. Roughly 1,000,000 Leman Russ Battle tanks roll from its manufactorums, with the same amount of Valkayries and Chimera's.

To determine Anterio II's tithe (GDP), I'd take my reserve PDF, 3,740,090,037 soldiers, the influx of new recruits (the entire Hive Population ~230 Billion + Incoming Penal Legionaries (~5 Billion)), added to internal security forces and Inquisitorial forces there: 1 billion, plus (and this is where it get's tricky) all replacements to damaged, pre-existing Korzack regiments from the planet: 76Billion subtracted by what I owe to the Departmento Munitorium:

??????

(Profit)

Anterio II's tithe therefore equals: 2,200,000,000

A planet's worth is pretty much measured in its raw output of men/material.

The Imperium could care less about a particular planet's economy(thats a local affair)

It's all about the tithe.

I believe the there would be administratum personal either on the planet or able to visit from a local sub-sector capital planet frequently enough to establish what the planet can provide.

I suspect a lot is guess work and more based on what the area needs in terms of resources than what a planet can provide. The system isn't meant to be fair or reasonable. It's draconian and top-down centric!

If there was a nearby problem that required said planet to be included in the threat zone of whatever was kicking off a few systems away, then the tithe would be increased, whether the planet can provide that or not.

And of course, if a planet cannot provide it's tithe, then a punitive force would be sent to deal with the problem by force if necessary.

I imagine a similar situation to the Ukrainian famine back in the 20's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor
