Hey everyone.

I haven't played 40K since 3rd Edition, but have recently had my interest rekindled. I've picked up the 6th Edition rulebook and am now trying to pick an army. As a long-time fan of the Imperium, I'm limiting myself to those factions which are loyal to the Emperor. In 3rd Edition I played Space Wolves, and was consdering reviving that army, as I still have my Bjorn the Fell-Handed model. However there seems to be a lot of hatred of the Wolves, as apparently their latest set of rules makes them too powerful. Alternatively, I was thinking either Salamanders Space Marines, or an Imperial Guard airborne regiment, though I'm not sure if the latter would be all that effective in practice while maintaining it's core concept, as it'd be without armoured support and be limited on it's heavy weapons. Any advice or opinions that might help me decide would be great, as I don't want to spring for a Codex until I've made up my mind for sure.

I wouldn't worry too much about what other people think of the army that you want to play. If Space Wolves are the army that you like the most then I'd say go for it!

I was the same as you, had to stop playing during 3rd and picked it up again in 6th. Luckily I still had my army and I got right back into my Space Wolves and started an Imperial Guard army.

Anyway, more importantly, welcome to Dakka Dakka!

I stopped after 3rd edition because it was such a change from 2nd that I really hated it. Then a couple years ago really got into 5th edition. I like 6th ed for the most part, some things I do not like as much, but I think overall it is a much better game. It is a good time to join as it is newer for everyone. The best way to understand it, is to get a game in with someone who has played a few games, expect to get your but kicked the first 10 times playing again, then before you know it, you will be off an running again.
