Hi everyone!

I'm new to 40K gaming but have known of it and been interested in it since my late teens. I especially like the backdrop to the game and the fluff keeps pulling me back to 40K. So i've decided to bite the bullet and explore the gaming side of things. Not a regular at any stores yet, nor a member of any clubs - i'm actually still piecing together my Dark Vengeance box set!

I'm very interested in the Raven Guard lore and therefore my first army will be a (true to combat doctrine) Raven Guard company. I'm liking the idea of having infiltrating units securing vital areas of the board and then supporting them with fast attack and mobile elites. The thinking man's chapter!

I noticed on the army profiles section (under Space Marines) that the Raven Guard are missing! So my goal, as a new initiate arriving at the spire, is to firstly master the 6th edition rules and (using the brains over brawn ideology of the chapter) develop an awesome, kick-ass, battle proven Raven Guard company to but into the Army Profiles! Wish me luck!

Mick.

Hey and welcome to dakka. It's nice knowing there isn't yet another person going with Draigowing or Terminator spam. Hope the best with your tactics. As for "mastering" the 6th ed rules, going full rules-lawyer is a bad idea as the argument of Read-as-Written vs. Read-as-Intended will always be going on as long as this game exists (the funniest example is that most models cannot draw line of sight as LOS is measured from the models eyes. Most models are wearing helmets and thus have lenses instead of eyes making LOS impossible.) I hope by "mastering" you meant knowing them enough to have fun with the game and not MASTERING them to the point of being able to argue over every detail.

Hi,

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! And no worries Hanith, I don't intend to be that anal with the rules. Sounds like that rule needs an FAQ. Brainscan - will do mate. though don't expect them to be expertly painted!

Quick question guys; What's the general rule on using these Forgeworld models for games at GW stores?

As they are available in Codex Space Marines I doubt will moan, people aren't to fussed about FW minis especially those that are available to regular lists!

For anyone that's interested, i've finally put together a 1750pts Raven Guard list:

Let me know what you think, would you alter anything?

Mick.

Why not bring some of the Ravens to Animosity?

Because the ravens are a work in progress and i'd like a bit more field experience before i jump into such events. Thanks though

Welcome to Dakka, Mick.
Raven Guard are a great army. I used to play them way back in 3rd edition, when they had very different, chapter-specific rules.
Playing them to the fluff, as you suggested, is always a good idea and really helps to develop a strong sense of tactical proficiency.
I look forward to seeing your models in the forums.
