Hi all

Just a quick question, if you give a ghoul king a magic weapon does it lose the Poisoned attacks rule?

If this is so, ghoul kings are pretty pointless...

Hmmm, surprisingly it looks like they do.

I'm looking at the rules for poisoned attacks in the little rulebook on page 73

In the later part of the second paragraph.

"Any spells cast by the model are unaffected, as are any attacks made with magic weapons they might be wielding"

Maybe wait for a second opinion on this as I am not an expert on fantasy (or much else really)

I would still take one imo, you still can reroll all failed misses during each turn of combat and with an ogre blade you'll need 2's to wound most things.

hah, ok, looks like they still get the poisoned. I would probs go for blade of more attacks to combine with red fury, since they are strength 5 anyways, thats 7 attacks with added smush from the red fury....

As above, poisoned attacks (via the BRB special rule) do not combine with Magic Weapons.

The only reason I posted the DUH confirmation response, is because

hah, ok, looks like they still get the poisoned
is incorrect.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

Ghoul Kings are not pointless. A ghoul king kitted out correctly could pump out a tonne of attacks. And mounted on a terrorgheist, he could get into combat on turn 2 against certain armies.

Ghoul King is our best character choice by a long shot. The poison is just a fluffyy thing.

if he takes a magic weapon, his attacks will not have the poison rule, unless the magic weapon happens to have it already.

Bit of a flub there, I ment to write "don't" instead of "do"

Which is why I quoted the bit of the rulebook that specifies that they don't because thats what I had ment to say...

so embaressed

Vampire lord goes toe to toe against him, and comes out ahead most of the time. Being able to pick up an armor save is a huge advantage.
General killing power is about the same(both get 5 S5 attacks each base, vamp lord can get re-rolls from ASF), it's just the normal lord is more survivable.

I'd only take Strigoi over Vamp Lord when I wanted another Terrorgeist.

Striggy is cheap as I never take Lvl 4 in that terrible army book lore.

out of curiosity, why do you believe the lore of vamps is terrible?

I've only played a couple of games, and I don't think it's that good, either. Granted, I don't know if I would call it bad, as I think that's a relative term and I don't know enough about the other lores. But there's something like 3 spells that don't seem to be useful at all, another that's almost useless, and 2 plus the signature spell that are worth it. Maybe only 1 plus the sig.

Well ive been proven wrong then

I think the ghoul king has potential, but for the same points you can get a lvl 3 vamp lord with almost the same killing power, plus they can take magic armour which is very useful.

T.O.

Strigoi's base cost is 40 points more than the vamp lord. The vamp lord can take armor, has higher WS and higher Ld, but lower In. The only advantage to the ghoul king is that he gets regen and re-rolls without buying them and can take a terrorgeist mount.
And ya no poison with a magic wp, but still uber killy what with infinite hatred and S5.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste

Most of the spells are insanely lack-luster when compared to a Lvl4 death Caster

A Ghoul King with a Dragonbane Gem and maybe a Mortis Engine in the back is very survivable. He doesn't have an armour save, which makes him more vulnerable to rank-and-file (most elites/characters hurting him regularly will have high Strength scores).
If all you want is a guy who can chew through tons of enemies, the Ghoul King is cheaper for what you get. If you want a caster, stick with the Vampire Lord.
