The following scenario is part of a campaign, rules have been agreed upon by both parties. Please, feel free to ad comments, recommendations, advice or just some good ol input. The unique scenario rules are at the end of the posting.

The tomb library lies just with in the imperial battle lines, its ancient halls of knowledge now crumbled and ruined. The skeletal remains of the once proud complex spread over several square miles of valley floor, its roves and spires now lost in time, with only the foundations and a scattering of walls remaining to the naked eye. But here, among the fallen ruins the imperial supplies are digging in. The front has expanded into contact with the enemy on all sides, and the Kelryan 3rd was going to do what the guard did best, dig in and prepare for siege. To that effort the catacomb like shell of the old library was being used as a supply dump and rear battery, supplying the endless shelling which kept opposing forces at bay along the entrenched front.
Unbeknownst to the forces of the Kelryan 3rd treachery was afoot. The Thousand Son’s spies and cultists had discovered that beneath the old library was a network of tunnels and catacombs, and stored deep with in some was the vault of knowledge, a repository or sorts, which stored tombs, books and data, protected deep beneath the ground against the ravishing’s of time and war. Using some of these very tunnels a small party of Chaos forces were able to penetrate deep behind the front line, spilling out into the lightly defended rear battery and catacomb network. Calling upon their demon allies the forces of chaos intend to overrun the ruins, and secure the knowledge buried within before imperial reinforcements arrive.

ATTACKER (CHOAS TZEENCH)

Nehbek, Sorcerer of the Thousand Sons leads his warband The Sons of Deception to the wartorn fields of Andaria. Quickly repelling a Necron patrol and a Dark Eldar raid the Sons of Deception move now to claim one of the arcane relics Nehkbek desires. Through scrying and the cult of Tzeentch the Sons learn of a library deep within Imperial territory guarded by the Kelryan III. With the knowledge contained within this vault Nehbek wishes to further his dark powers and advance on his path to apotheosis. Using the underground catacomb networks and glamour spells the Sons of Deception travel deep into Imperial territory. Here the sorcerer lord sacrifices 9 thrall wizards to the Changer of Ways, bringing forth a warpstorm and with it the Daemons of Tzeentch. Utilizing his vile magics and legion of Daemons Nehkbek sets his plan for the destruction of the Kelryan III into motion.

DEFENDER (Imperial Guard)

Roth scratched his new stubble. It wasn’t that promotion was rare in the imperial guard, only that promotion to such a rank as Major was all but unheard of. Along with the pay, the food and the private tent, one of the perks of being a Major in the Kelryan III was that he was finally permitted to grow a beard. 25 years in the imperial guard, but right now all that privilege got him was an itchy face.

Roth had found himself in charge of an ordinance company several miles from the front. All in all it wasn’t a bad gig, he only had a single battery to watch over, and most of his command was made up of veterans rotating from the front, and recruits being train up to take their place, the conscripts were fresh from the prison colonies, outfitted with the traditional blast collar of the imperium. Currently the ‘recruits’ were being trained up by Master Sargent Liam. Liam was on a tirade; spit flying from his lips as he berated one man after another. The vision brought a smile to Roth’s itchy face; the Master Sargent had been a requested officer, and one which he was grateful for having made. The man was hard on his recruits, but they’d deserved it, criminals, and traitors all. If they wished to find their freedom, they’d have to prove themselves on the front.

The Major’s advisors were around him, the astropath Frib was muttering under his breath and listening as the coms officer spoke. The gunnery master was keeping a close eye on the crew as they loaded the big gun, its barrel steaming and glowing slightly after each round was fired, a steady stream of infantrymen carrying shells from the nearby ammo depo to feed the big gun.

Everything was looking to be a good day, and Roth was looking forward to making his rounds, likely exploring the ruins of the massive library they were stationed in while wandering from post to post. He was fancying the notion of trying to read one of the big books which had been recovered when the com officer caught his attention.

“… repeat, armor moving in this sector?” The trooper looked up at the Major questioningly. “We don’t have any armor stationed here do we?”

The major raked his brain; he had requested a mechanical loader for their gun. “Confirm contacts? Is this the loa-“

“iiieaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa” the Major was cut off by the astropath’s shrieks “-they come! From below, from above, from everywhere, they come! Quake for the changer nears! Eeeeeeuuugh” Blue flame flickered briefly in from the Frib’s empty eye sockets before he collapsed to the ground.

Major Roth had but a moment to stare at the unconscious astropath before an explosion raked the library. Close by an eruption of dirt exploded from the ruins, a blue tank hurtled forth from the ground, its gears grinding shrilly drowning out the sound of falling debris.

“Coms officer, alert command, if you please, we’re under attack.” Major Roth’s heart was beating, but he knew not to let it show. “MASTER SARGENT!” Roth called out to his old friend, “prepare to repell the enemy!” Orders began to fly as if by instinct “Gunnery Master, new target if you please.” Comsen, hail Captain Eden we could use some support. All guns, assume firing positions and bring that tank down.”

Roth grinned, his first skirmish, and he was going to show the brass they’d made the right choice. His smile was short lived as not 25 yards away the air shimmered and a glowing lanky pink arm materialized and started to pull a squat form forth. The astropath erupted in screams again. Roth glanced quickly at Frib and began to back away “Comsmen, hail Colonel Rhane, we’re going to need some support…”

THE SCENARIO

Rules for this Scenario: due to the unusual nature of the mission, allowing for the claim of a tile not connect with a players control zone, and one which is in the middle of another players control, a special scenario with unique objectives was devised to explain this happening.

Chaos Special Rules:
ANY non-daemon unit which would otherwise start on the board turn 1 may be placed in a special reserve. Allowing it to enter from reserve turn 1 (on a 3+). Any unit which normally outflanks may opt to use the special reserves (beginning as normal on turn 2) for this mission, allowing a re-roll of the result of the scenario chaos reserve’s roll. Any unit may opt before rolling, to enter from the Chaos Catacomb Objective. (Flyers will obey all regular flyer rules)
Reserve Chart: d6. 1 – Enters from Chaos Catacomb Objective
2 – Enter from table side 1
3 –Enter from table side 3
4 – Enter from table side 2
5 – Enter from table side 4
6 – Deep strike to enter.
Ig Special Rules: The imperial guard have already fortified (if lightly) their rear position concentrating around he rear battery. However, the guard is spread thinly throughout the remainder of their supply line and the ruins. To represent this, the terrain is preset with defensive measures, and the IG deployment zone will allow for 4 of the 5 objectives to be with in deployment reach.
Each Primary Objective will be worth 3 points. There will be 2 minor objectives each worth 1 point. 1) Slay the warlord. 2) First blood.
THE MAP:

Side1 is IG table edge, Side 2 is the Chaos table edge
RED is the Chaos Deployment, 8” from the catacomb Objective, a 4” diameter gaping hole in the ground.
BLUE is the IG deployment, anywhere 6” from any board edge, and 12” from the enemy deployment zone. (We assume anyone close to the chaos entrance, was either already gunned down, of fled in terror….)

THE OBJECTIVES:
1) Chaos Catacomb: An impassible “whole” from which the forces of chaos spill into the battle field. The chaos player is allowed a 6” bubble of deployment surrounding this catacomb. Additionally, any unit which arrives from the catacomb from reserves treats the entrance as a board edge for all intents and purposes.
2) Ig Gun Emplacement: The imperial guard have dug in heavily around their big guns, already on the watch for enemy infiltrators the guns are well protected. The emplacements acts as a central command center
3) Vault of Knowledge. Entrance into the underground repository of information. The great vault door must be held at the end of the battle in order to grant access/deny the enemy.
4) Supply Depot: Here is the imperial weapon supply stash, a valuable place indeed.
5) Coms-Station: The guard must hold to call in reinforcements, chaos must hold to spread the word of chaos and fear across the guard lines.
Terrain will be preset, using what is available at the game shop to best create a desolate ruin, with most cover being waist to chest high on human models, no forests, an a few tall remnants of the buildings. There will be a ruin by the Vault Entrance, and a set of defensive walls surrounding the gun emplacement. There will be a scattering of other buildings across the field as well as low lying trench/ruins. The Coms station will have a single wall.

Warlord Traits:
The attacker may CHOOSE ONE: Night Attacker, Strategic Genius, Divide to Conquer, OR may elect to roll on any chart.
The defender may CHOOSE ONE: Conqueror of Cities, Divide to Conquer, Princeps of Deceit, OR may elect to roll on any chart.
Defender sets up first, then the attacker sets up.
Roll for first turn.
The game lasts 5 rounds, and then roll, on a 3+ continues to 6 rounds. Then on a 5+ continues to 7. The game always ends after the 7th round.

Interesting setup, eager to see the batrep. When will it be posted?

Seeing a squad of veterens swoop in in a Vendetta, secure the area, deliver that math assignment, and extract within 2 minutes would be freaking sweet.

CHAOS TURN ONE

The Chaos Player roll and gets the wrong half of his demons, the Pink Horrors must enter. Despite re-rolls the Chaos player only rolls one Rhino, and rolls poorly as it enters from the far table edge.

Roth looked on as the battle began, a gold and blue rhino had sped into view, running full throttle through the ruins towards the imperial line, smoke billowed from its hull and suddenly there was no more tank, only a vast cloud hurtling towards their line. As Roth began relaying orders through the vox system to forward sentries a snapping sound drew his attention to the back field. Behind the defensive line and masses of conscripts a hole had appeared in reality. Its gate made of red lightning, withdrawing to reveal a mass of of short pink fleshy bodies, supported upon spindly limbs with maniacal grins breaking their torso in halves. In their midst a great blue horror rode upon a floating palanquin, its arms out stretched as it chanted. Lightning and foul colors sprayed from its fingers down along the line of guardsmen, its forces joined by the torrent of fire unleashed form the fingers of the pink fleshy monsters. Their attack fell heavily upon the new recruits, and their losses were heavy. Panic was evident yet they held their ground under the steady barking of their Master Sargent.

*Pink Horror's Deep Strike In*

*A single Rhino rolls onto the far table edge*

*Aftermath of the shooting*

GUARD TURN TWO

The imperial reserves arrive. Retaliating hard on the scattered and minimal Chaos forces.

The guards retaliation came quick and heavily. Reinforcements from Command arrived, stormtroopers striking down behind the pink horrors, small in number, they brought their powerful arms to fire upon the demons. Along the left flank Captain Eden had arrived, and with him came the garrison from his post, melta guns and flamers held at the ready with many bodies. They moved on the smoke cloud with heavy weapons blazing.
Roth ordered supporting fire from the entrenched heavy weapons, and was rewarded to hear the grinding crunch and crashing of armor being disabled. In the back field Roth ordered an advance on the demons, while their destruction had been surprising, the initial effect was wearing off, and the meant began to realized they outnumbered the demons many times over. Under the guidance of the master Sargent they advanced on the creatures, unloading carbines in to their midst. The new recruits were horrible shots, but they made up for it with numbers. A wall of las fire slammed into the ranks of the demons, while Liam's attendants pumped Promethean into the midst, and Roth allowed a smile as he watched the smoldering ruins of the creatures dissolve back into the warp.

*some guard mingle up field*

*conscripts advance*

*aftermath of guard shooting and reserves*

*al'rahem and his reserves*

CHAOS TURN TWO

A Demon Prince, the Chaos Chosen and two more rhinos with marines arrive supported by the screamers of tzeench

Celebration was short lived as Frib the astropath exclaimed incoming demons to the north. This time the rippling lightning was but a thin vale, but through it soared a mass of fleshy disks, their forms stretched and skewed as they moved, all golden flashing eyes with spiky teeth. They appeared just behind the heavy weapons squad whom never stood a chance, the creatures moved so quickly that they'd already passed beyond the men before they realized they were dead. Roth immediately began barking orders to be transmitted to Edens command when the roaring of engines drew his attention across the field, two more of the blue and gold tanks had appeared, speeding towards his line, as they moved they unloaded an improbable number of marines. The marines, had blue and gold armor, their helms adorned with golden plaques, their eyes glowing a luminescent blue. They had descended upon the forward sentries without warning, their bolters' sewing death to the closest men.

The vox caster was refusing to listen to Roth's instructions, insiting on pointing to the battle won in the backfield. In frustration Roth turned to look on in horror as the early victory was turning into a rout. A squad of blue marines had managed to find their way behind the imperial lines, and worse they had heavy weapons, their massive flame throwers were incinerating the conscripts in droves. The tortured men were not only being burnt alive but some were mutating. A Monstrous daemon had emerged further along the rear flank its wings wide spread and its armored body emitted radiation which melted and mutated those who drew too close.

*Marines advance upon the guard line*

*guardsmen surrounded*

*tzeench reserves arrive*

*screamers arrive*

*marines bail out of their transport to fire on the forward guardsmen*

*conscripts die by the 10s*

*and flee off the table*

*advance guard take heavy losses*

quick reply as I finish up. I am not sure where the store got its terrain. The once we used were definitely not GW issue, however most are GW and rather extensive at the store.

And as far as the army list, yes the game was played out on the Wednesday before the new dex release. I am hoping for a rematch with will's chaos using the new rules soon.

IG TURN THREE

To the horror of my opponent and the amusement of everyone in the store, the 40 conscripts walk back on the board. Las gun fire laces the chaos forces. Both my PCS (with special characters) were forced into assault or be shot to piecess. The Assaults go surprisingly well, as chenkov (Master Sargent Liam) takes a wound but survives one round, and Alrahem gets lucky with the Sorcerer failing to wound and inflicting one with is super special sword of doom.

Master Sargent Liam, drew his blade. His recruits had lost their nerve before the flames and powers of chaos, and he knew he could only match the fire of the demon kind with fire of his own. His men needed zeal, and faith. And he would give it to them. Bellowing a Challenge to the newly appeared marines he lead his men forward. Their flames engulfing the blue forms of the marines. To his delight the cheers of advancing penal recruits could be heard at the sight of his retaliation, already the massive form of the demon prince was being obstructed by the rushing of fresh men to the front. Liam allowed himself a brief moment of pride, his stern face failing to show either his hope, or its loss as the forms of the marines unscathed emerged from the flames, his blade held high in challenge was matched by that of the marine champion.

Captain Eden screamed in rage as he saw his men gunned down by the blue marines. his own squad, heavy with Promethean had already advanced to counter their advance. The flames allowed his men to get close to the marines, unleashing another torrent as they clashed. His crysteel blade bitting deep into marine armor, Eden heard the call of a large marine. The man-creature stood a head taller than it compatriots, wielding a giant glowing mace. As large as the creature was, its motions were slow, and labored much like its fellow marines. Its blows contained so much power that as the mace struck into the ground next to the captain it dug great furrows of earth. Eden didn't allow the creature time to draw back for another attack, darting forward he slid the sleek black blade into the glowing eye of the marine...

*conscripts arrive*

*chenkov lines up for some flame action*

*alrahems platoon attempt to move on the screamers*

*the imperial center chills*

*alrahems platoon gets ready to sell their lives dearly*

*the whole board thus far*

The guards shoot is less great, but not stellar, the DP takes two wounds, and the screamers take two. The colossus lands well and takes some marines.

The duals

*chenkov

*alrahem

CHAOS TURN THREE

The chaos player is in trouble, he targets the colossus, and attempts to move his forces across the board. The power of the CCS orders surprised him, and he targets them with his screamers. His final DP enters the back field to support his other DP.

*DP enters the field*

*first DP takes out the colossus

*screamers advance on the command squad

*the far field blob takes casualties

*screamers boost over the CCS killing all but the the MoO

*chenkov falls and his squad sells their lives

*al'rahems squad is gone yet the commander carries on taking a wound

*the back field thus far

IG TURN FOUR

the final SWS moves on the screamers, as the conscripts advance.
The central veterans move to claim the central objective which was the "coms" post.
The conscripts fire on the screamers, while the back field vets and stormtroopers take on the chosen and demon princes...

*sws advance on the screamers

*most of the screamers are brought down

*remains of the guard blob duck for cover, having lost their commissar to a precise combustion.

*MoO attempts to call in more thunder

DP and chosen survive with one wound a piece

CHAOS TURN FOUR

The Chaos forces are greatly depleted and attempt to make a run at the remaining IG troops. The screamer takes out the MoO and the distant marines advance up the field more. The DP and chosen fire on and destroy the storm troopers.

*Chaos Advance up the field

*Last screamer kills the MoO

IG TURN FIVE

IG forces advance on the small remaining units, removing the DP, chosen and last screamer with fire but are unable to destroy any of the 3 marine squads.

Veteran Sargent Von looked in horror as the blue spectral creatures descended upon the commander and his retinue. The blurring creatures composed of blue flesh with flashing eyes and fangs, materialized and shimmered passing through the post, leaving bloody carnage in the com station. Only the ordinance master remained on his feet, one arm hanging by threats of flesh, the other griping the com. His voice was inaudible, but his face was obviously strained with pain and urgency as he called in another rain of cold steel. The words hadn't even left his mouth before the creatures returned. They were smaller in number as they appeared, but more solid and real. They appeared and latched onto the master's back, tearing long gapping crimson ribbons into his back.
Von glanced back at his entrenched squad, they'd been somewhat fortunate thus far, not having taken much fire. Casualties had been high however, each of the men carrying plasma guns had succumbed as their weapons overheated. The only plasma they retained was in his own hand, a side arm he'd carried since the campaign on Helicos II. Even lacking much firepower, he knew what must be done, and so did his veterans. A quick word had is squad on their feet and moving, lasguns stubbornly set and resolved to their duty. The creatures were now fully materialized, filling the coms station, unaware and gorging themselves on the dead, busy and distracted as they went about their work. The veterans advanced as close to the open station as they could, as the first boot landed within the room golden eyes flickered to face their new prey.
Von merely breathed the word "fire" and the post lit up with eerie red as the squad emptied their las carbines. Black demon blood erupted in flame as it leaked form blue rubbery bodies, where the concentrated beams of light struck their targets. Von's own pistol dislodged a bolt of molten light goop which slammed into the closest creature, engulfing its form. The plasma bolt was bright enough to leave Von blinking as the world inverted color. As his vision returned only the smoldering ruin of bodies remained.
"Quickly, corporal. Secure the com." Von and his squad began picking their way through the mangled and burnt corpses.

CHAOS TURN FIVE

at this point Will concedes defeat, his forces are too scattered to reach any additional objectives and the back field has been cleared of his forces.

[b]VICTORY IMPERIAL GUARD!

Captain Eden awoke to pain. Someone was cutting through his arm and chest with a hot blade. He couldn't open his eyes, he couldn't move, and attempting to move was getting him nowhere. His limbs didn't respond. ON FIRE! His arm was on fire! but everything was dark. His face began to burn...
...Eden awoke to find the world monocular, he could feel the gauss wrapped around his head, covering his right eye, he tried to lift his right arm. It was no longer burning, in fact he couldn't feel it at all...
...Captain Commander Eden herd more than felt his metallic hand palm the new medal on his chest. His new eye was giving him troubles, the world was tinted a strange green and his good eye was constantly fighting to suppress the data overlay.
The post he had attempted to reinforce was now his new command. By all rights he should be dead, again. But in the combat he had defeated the chaos sorcerer commander. Luck had again been all that saved Eden, but the command either didn't know, or didn't care. All that had mattered was that it had impressed the brass, and if keeping him alive meant they could parade around some inspiration of courage and heroism, then a few bionic parts and he'd be good as new.
The captain commander looked across the field of his promotion, the ruins of the library. Hundreds of new penal recruits and conscripts were building trench works, clearing debris and fortifying the remaining structures. A large group drilled in what was once a grand hall. Eden would stalwartly defend this ground from the forces of chaos, the sorcerer god was tricky and would return. There was something in these ruins he was after, and having one of his minions bested wasn't going to change that.
Near by a group of junior commissars stood awaiting Edens command. Together they would root out what ever evil the fell forces had been looking for with in the ruins. If the vile chaos scum came look for it again, they not would find only the charred soot where once knowledge stood. The commissar's of the god emperor would not leave one shred behind, the contents of this library would burn, in the name of the emperor, it would be done.
