So I THINK I have finally picked a paint scheme that will hold my interest long enough to paint my whole army. I am just really confused why it took so long for me to figure it out. I started playing eldar because they reminded me of the Protoss from the Starcraft Universe. So why not give them a paint scheme that resembles that. I have gone through quite a few schemes then got bored before painting my whole force. It all envolved lots of paint stripping and mismatched looking army. But I am hoping this can be an end to that.
The main color of Protoss is obviously gold. Its a pretty bright gold but idk if its quite "burnished gold" or not. Im not up to speed on the new citadel paints so this could be where I could use some help. My general idea is a black or grey primer. Base with a flat brown and move up to a yellow. This should hopefully give me a nice surface to lay the gold down on. Slap the appropriate color gold on in a few light layers. Wash with a ?brown? maybe? The grooves and shadows of the protoss armour aren't really black. More of a brownish color I believe. I could highlight with a burnished gold possibly too. I would like to try to build my skills in source lighting in this project as well. The protoss are also known for all their bright blue lights and flowing energy. To get this I would try to clean up the areas I wanted blue with a grey layer, then lighter grey with a hint of blue. This is where im lost to to my lack of knowledge and skill in source lighting things like glowing energy.
Overall I would like to draw all my inspiration from the Protoss in SC2. Many models have the possibility to even match certain units in the game. I am in the process of stripping down my models for this project so I hope to start it up in the next week or so. I would love input of what paints I should buy and possibly some tips on doing such a project. I will do my best to take pictures of my models during the process so support from the dakka community would go a long way and definitely help keep me motivated! Thanks guys!
This is one of my favorite pictures of a zealot and Is where alot of my inspiration from this came from.
