So I've seen lots of conversions that have metallic wires/tubing running from weapons to backpacks and things of this nature and I was wondering if anyone might have any suggestions for materials to use for such an effect. (Wanting to run some tubes/wiring from some Broadside rail guns to their backpacks)

Guitar string is most definitely the way to go. I find acoustic strings are the easiest to work with.

There's lots of different gauges of guitar string. There's really really thin, like almost fishing string, all the way up to the big hefty bass strings, which can be really thick. Just drop by any local music store. Most of them should have a good selection of guitar string.

Hell, if you have friends who play guitar, a lot of people break strings. Ask them to save the remnants for you. That's what I do.

Not a bad idea (if my friends weren't all WH nerds to begin with lol). Might have to check out a local store though.

Another easy solution is to pick up thin gauge electronic wiring (or strip it out of old devices)

Gale Force 9 makes 1.5mm that works for power cables and the like. They also make metal rope too that looks pretty neat.

Guitar string as mentioned, also speaker wire works a charm as well. I use the stuff all the time, best of all, it actually stays where you bend it, getting guitar wire in just the right spot can be a PITA

If the wait isn't a concern, it'll be hard to beat that price - lots of places sell individual strings that cost more than the set. They're acoustic strings, too boot, which tend to have thicker, more pronounced windings (great for picking up drybrushing). You'll likely get the most mileage out of the low E string, but the thinner ones still look good in bundles or as secondary details - the texture is simply too fine to give that distinctive ribbed look, not to mention the smaller visual "footprint." I'd advise you to put aside the two thinnest strings, though, unless you have very specific plans for them. They're a pain to work with, being quite stiff for their diameter and having a degree of memory, and completely lack the outer winding that makes guitar strings attractive in the first place. If you ever need to make smooth curves or complex bends in thin stock, something softer (like floral wire) is well worth the extra buck or two it'll cost you. For something like telephone lines in a suitably scaled diorama, though, I can't imagine anything better.

One final point to remember when working with the strings - leverage is your friend. It's much easier to get a smooth curve if you bend a longer piece then clip off the section you want. Pliers will save stress on your fingers, but flat jaws result in a series of sharp angles connected by straight sections, instead of a smooth radius, if you try to curve it piecemeal, since you're forcing bends close to the where the wire is held. If you move the jaws outward, though, you can muscle the middle to shape, then simply clip off the kinked ends. There's a bit more waste this way, but strings are long and 28mm models are small - even a single string will last you a while and as cheap as they are ( or can be, at least), having to restock a bit sooner is well worth the improved results, in my opinion.

I myself have never been a fan of the guitar string approach. I find them too tough to work with.
I do like the metal cables from Dragon Forge for unsupported cables, but my hands down choice is to make them from greenstuff.
I use the SAW 020 from Green Stuff Industries over the one from Masq-Mini. I think it's features make it much easier to use.

grab yourself some of this, its a little more work than
guitar wire, its about the size of a paperclip so drill and superglue is perfect.

You can leave it as is for straight calbing, or wrap it round itself for a tubing style
