Could we see something as simple as this in the new codex?

Predictive Targetting System..............................20pts
The predictive targetting system's suite of sensors and rangefinders tracks and records the movement patterns of fast targets. This system is a battlesuit support system which takes up one hard point on a battlesuit. A battlesuit with this system has Skyfire.

Easy, right?

Sounds good, would be pretty good paired with twin Missile Pods.

I support this plan. Maybe drop it to 15pts or 10pts, though, given that you're only getting Skyfire, not Intercept?

Wherever they tell me

This is probably (IMHO) the best way for Tau to do Anti-Aircraft and fits very well with a mobile play style. I think doing it like the Advanced Stabilization System is best, where they can choose to do skyfire at the beginning of their turn (not shooting phase, to simulate the need for the system to kick in). With JSJ they don't really need Interceptor to avoid being killed by the Flyer they're going after.

This'd actually be a lot of fun to play test. I'll see if I can convince my Tau friend to do that this weekend and let you know how it goes.

I'd prefer to have this as a Sky Ray upgrade, in particular a Markerlight with a Skyfire special rule - since I believe, if I read the Tau Codex right, the Seeker Missile hits flyers on a BS5 anyways. Turning the Sky Ray into an AA platform makes sense from a fluff standpoint, and Crisis Suits dogfighting with jets is too Gundam Wing. Also, Skyfire would limit the uselessness of a Crisis Suit against non-flying targets.

Second it for the SkyRay.

Crisis Suits have a job and that isn't air defense.

Putting this on any old battle suit seems counter to the Tau doctrine of specialized war gear roles.

Tau might create a specialized anti-aircraft battle suit, but they wouldn't just slap AA mounts on existing ones.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

This is good, but this actually prevents the battlesuit from hit targets on the ground with full BS, as IIRC Skyfire lets you only shoot at flyers with full BS.

It should say something like, "At the start of the shooting phase, allows for Battlesuit weapon (systems) to gain the Skyfire USR".

This way it can shoot at ground target before any fliers come in, and afterwards as well.

Also, considering the function of the Targeting Array, it should increase the BS of Snap shots (and Overwatch) by +1(after the Snap Shot BS modifier).
