Hi guys I'm trying to find a way to convert a terminator assault cannon to be used as a heavy bolter by a devastator marine.
Something along these lines.

So far I have removed the majority of the terminator arm and replaced it with a standard marine arm.

Beyond that I am not sure what steps to take. I have limited funds and resources but if necessary am able to purchase any needed bitz online.
Cheers

I think the one used in that picture is from a Land Speeder, Also there are several on the Dark Angels Ravening upgrade frame.

Might be a lot easier to use one that has no Terminator arm already molded on?

'Ain't nothing crazy about me but my brain. Right brain? Riight! No not you right brain! Right left brain? Right!... Okay then lets do this!!

I was simply using that picture as a reference for what I was attempting to do. I have seen other models where people have used a terminator AC but I cannot find these as I happened upon them while randomly browsing a few weeks back.
But anyway, thank you Hairy. I will consider the LS AC

For a normal marine I would recommend having the second hand helping to support the weapon. Otherwise the Terminator AC has everything thats needed. It has an ammo hopper attached so you don't need to do an elaborate ammo feed (although obviously you can if you want).

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Seems like a straightforward conversion, what specific parts are you having trouble with? What advice are you looking for? What's the final look/feel you're wanting to achieve?

Anything beyond "I'm not sure what to do.." would be helpful.

If you want something as close to the shown picture as possible, then the legs and arms look to be from forgeworld, the torso is black templars, backpack is seemingly a conversion or scratchbuild, assault cannon as said seems to be a Ravenwing land speeder assault cannon. Ammobelt is probably from the devastator heavy bolter, extended by putting several together, or scratchbuilt.

You can pretty much get away with just using the devastator heavy bolter backpack and ammo belt and attaching that to the assault cannon. Snip the arms at the joints, pin and greenstuff in desired pose. Whatever chest you fancy, same for legs, could snip and pose those as well if you can't find a pair you like.

If you're using the termie AC then I guess all you have to decide is if you want it beltfed or not.

Okay specifically I am not sure how to proceed with the forward handle.
There is no real handle to speak of and I'm not sure where I would connect the hand to.

Space Marines are nice for this, because the way their armor is on their bodies. You can cut the hand off of say, a chainsword or boltpistol right behind the hand. Youll see a line where the forearm armor meets the hand. Cut off the sword parts on both ends of the hand. Reposition the hand to the angle youll need the forward handle to be. Then all youll need is to make the forward handle from something else, similar to how the marine is in the picture you posted

There's plenty of space marine left hands to choose from if you want a closed hand, you can either drill through it to attach it to your own handle (styrene rod, paperclip, metal wire, anything really), or you can glue it onto a plastic bit handle, like the handle off a meltabomb. And then it's just a matter of attaching the handle onto the gun, with a strip of plasticard or even a piece of sprue cut down to size if you don't have plasticard. Or a pin/paperclip... there's so many possibilities.

It all depends on what look you want. And if you're lacking inspiration, try googling some reallife heavy guns to see what kind of handles they have. Use your imagination, go through your bits box and look at everything with the mindset "what would create the look I want".

I would use the GK Psycannon as a base, as you have a good weapon to work from and the hand are already in the supporting pose. You can then just do a barrel swap, or if the barrels are too large, you can just make you own from some lengths of brass rod held together with GS.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

I apologise for the poor quality photo.

In the end I decide to cut up a teleport homer and fit it onto the end with GS to give the gun more bulk.
I know she ain't pretty but I'm pretty pleased with the result considering this was more of an experiment.

I used the hand of the CS so I decided to use the rest of it as well.

For the Devestator, I'd recommend you grab the Heavy Bolter backpack. There's a guy who sells flexible ammo belts (I forget the link) or you can press-mold your own using the Dreadnaught's ammo belt as a starting point.

I'm not a big fan of the underslung chainsword but if you're happy with it, then by all means go for it. It's not that I think it's out of place, rather it seems like it might unbalance the model composition by making the gun too "busy".

Thanks Dakka-D's for all your input. Here's what I've managed to come up with so far:

Yup. Thanks for the advice about the chainsword Breotan!
I do agree it makes the gun too busy looking. Decided to cut out a blade from a piece of sprue and simply use that instead.
Still needs a bit of tidying but that's generally what it will look like.

Very interested solution for what you are trying to accomplish. I think you made more work for yourself starting with the termie AC rather than the upgrade DA sprue. I am curious to see how this ends up looking painted up!

To all of the service members, Active Duty, Reservist, National Guard, Retired, Medically Discharged, Veteran, Disabled Veteran, etc, thank you for your service.

Thanks Veteran.

Yes I agree that in hindsight it was silly to use the Termie AC.
However I'd already hacked parts off before I decided to see what I would actually need to accomplish what I was trying to do. I didn't want to waste the bitz so I just kept at it

Next time I attempt a similar conversion I will most definitely use the DA upgrade AC.

As for painting it will probably be a week before I am able since at the moment I'm desperately short on pauldrons

Not bad! My only suggestion would be to lower the forward handle a bit - to me it looks a little high at the moment.

On the original conversion, it looks like they used the landspeeder pilot arms for the handles (then attached those hands to FW Mk3 arms). That might be useful if you do another one using a ravenwing asscan.
